Just kicking the rat trapping into high gear...was up until 3am last night night putting up Rats and Beavers
Started with drowner sets in houses, feeders and push ups (once the snow melted a bit). #1 Newhouse and Victors with wire attached for extra length. I will add weights next year, running about 50% drowning rate on the #1's. Trapping was tough, lots of snow. Now transitioning between culvert trapping and house trapping. Numbers are really starting to pile up. Once the rats start to disperse (1st week or so of ice out), I will take a few days off work and hammer them hard. Using 8" and 6" plunger colony traps (round ones), and 5" square colony traps. Rats are still beautiful, though the males are starting to show some signs of fighting (1 in 5 with a bite mark now). Good luck, Rat trapping is a blast, keep in mind to only put out enough sets so that you can handle the amount of fur (green bellies suck).
