Default School this newbie!

Okay let me start off with I am not a trapper, and know very little about trapping. I spend alot of time hunting, fishing, and hiking. I found some connibear traps at my grandparents a few years back, and ask about them. My grandpa explained that he used to dabble in it, and that I could have them seeing as how he spends winters down south. After watching some video on the internet I decided to try the "bucket" method. It took a week but I did find sucess with a rabbit on private land. Wow, this is really fun. I mean really really fun! So I guess before I bore you all here are some questions;
Any material out there on how to better harvest the hide?
How do I further get involved in this activity?

Thanks for your time, and hope to hear back on this!

There is so much info online these days that its unbelievable ! Most trapping is done in the winter, for the purpose of harvesting the fur...and thats when most animals are prime...that is, their fur is in the best condition.

But basically your choices are do it yourself, trial and error or get with someone to mentor you.

You don't say where you are from so its hard for anyone to step up.....

But you'll need to learn what animals are in your area and learn the different methods to target them.

Sign up for a trappers' education course. Go to the Alberta Trappers Association website to see where the next courses are, or find out where the nearest ATA local is and join them. Locals sometimes put on their own courses. Get educated, get licensed, find someone who needs help on their line.
Good luck!
