Default shooting table / shooting bench

Hi, just like to know what your thoughts are on this and what do you suggest. I'd like to set up a place around home (Live on a farm) to shoot and want to build a table (like to be able to move it too). Also what shooting bench's can you reccomend and while on the subject what is the best back drop to my target? I was thinking of filling old Grain bags with sand and piling them 6x6 feet or more with a depth of 3 feet. I'll be no more then 150 yards. Its going to be just for sighting in or light shooting so I don't need to drive to the range all the time.

Fixed ( I knew that too just didn't think and type. )

Vices are designed to be used to hold guns while working them...not shooting. You would be looking for a shooting rest. I use a Bench Master and am really happy with it.

$40 at Canadian tire for table and chair...works great for me. Bench Master was around $150 I think.

Hey I got one of those for camping, never thought of using it like that. Do you find it steady enough?

This is the bench I use for p-doggin and load testing.
It's called the 360 deg sharp shooter bench by inventive technology
I picked it up from Cabelas when I was down in Lacey Washington two summers ago.

The bench is super solid and rotates smoothly for a full 360 deg. It's no BR pivot but does work very well in the field. The local ma & pa shop out here (P&D's) http://www.p-d-ent.com/ carry the new version of Ricks BR Pivot which is now manufactured by Caldwell. I still may have to get one of those as well. Here is a pic of the BR Pivot.

It isn't doing me any good this year for it is buried under about a 4 foot snow drift on the farm but works great 8 months of the year.
Being one of those cheap farmers I utilized an old style school desk where bench and table (desktop) are integrated. I extended the desk with a half sheet of 5/8 plywood to the front to accomadate my front rest and give me more room to get behind it on the table.

What Hank said.

For a table though i was thinking of building something with 2/4's and plywood in a L shape like. but who knows I'm looking for input and ideas cause if your going to do it you might as well get it right the first time and it never hurts to ask for ideas.

As for shooting rest I could just use a pack or them bags u can buy and fill with sand, but IF i do buy a rest whats best of whats good enough with anything else being a waste of money.

A really heavy picnic table with plywood nailed to the top. Rocks from the pile at the corner of the field are used for extra weight.

The table is stored in gramma.s old house so the rain does not warp the table and I can shoot out of the back door when it is raining or in the cold.

The basic Lyman tripod is used, but I am taking a look at one of those Caldwells to put on the bench. Those Caldwells look pretty slick.

Just FYI, heres one I made. Use it for gopher- and long-range shooting....works OK for me:

Folded for transport:

For a permanent bench in the yard, I used plate steel from a trailer upper fifth, with rubber mat on top, and 4" pipe legs....good and solid for benchwork.
