Any interest in a custom shooting bench?
I am going to make one tomorrow, out of aluminum tubing and plate. I am thinking it is going to be a 3 legged unit; 2 up front, 1 under the seat, stonrg light and sturdy.
Anyone got any interest in a custom bench?

There are so many ways to build them0 2" aluminum legs, 1" supports, 3 legs, 4 legs, seperate or attached seat, etc.
Do you guys have anything in mind that is not readily made? I know how I would like mine, but more input is always welcome.

I had to say that, didn't I? LOL!
Hal, you aren't helping at all. Of course, when you buy 1-7, the 8th one is free!

Oh come on now, there must be 7 people on the planet that, with enough coaxing, bribery or liquid courage could call you a friend, especially if you were buying rifle benches!
I bet we could get 6 more new friends right now if you send me a cheque!
(There are SO MANY MORE responses to an open ended invitation like that, I mean it is not only an open door, it is swinging wildly, has a moving pedway up to it and nekkid women standing inside...must....fight......urges..... )

Go with 3 legged benches, they will never wobble around on uneven ground 4 or more legged benches can.

Just screw a chunk of plywood on the top of that "Monster Energy" fridge..
Marketing it as "dual purpose" may expedite the sale?

And, bring a generator, will keep the frosty beverages...well frosty when shooting gophers and 2000 yard 8'x8' plywood!
Nice!

You would let a generator idle just to keep the beer cold?

Heck no, but I would sell the generator with the monster fridge
another answer- yes, but only if I am not sitting in city limits, in the Superstore or Rusty's parking lot in particular, with a rifle shooting gophers.....

There are several ways to go. A metal sawhorse with a 2x12 screwed to the top for a table & a bucket for a seat. You can get a folding table like a card table & just use one set of legs for the front & fashion a single leg for the rear.
I made one with 3/4" plywood & three pieces of black iron pipe for legs. They thread into collars screwed to the underside of the table. The top is 24"w X 34"L & has three 1x2's screwed along the underside to help avoid twisting. I set on a bucket that has all my ammo, bags & optics in it. Not overly portable but it works good for what I do with it.
Pics available upon request.
BTW-- I agree completely with Bushrat too.

Rona $50 for the table ($28 if you get them on sale), half size folder, and $18 for the chair at Walmart. Light, fits in back of most cars, sets up in 30 seconds, comes down in the same, total weight about 20 pounds. Time to buy 8 minutes.

You can use a heavy duty cardboard box or a milk crate too, or for free you can just lay on the ground. Using a folding card table is not what I had in mind.
I am going to build a system that has everything I am looking for that is not readily available on a commercially available one.
Thanks for the relevant reply.

Careful, Ken doesn't like anyone messing with his advertisement.

Actually, I asked for what guys are looking for, I like opinions.
(It was the morons that had to throw their 1/2c worth of useless brainless comments in on the Monster Fridge ad that pizored me off. )
PLEASE Keep ideas coming though, if I get enough valid and interesting ideas, and the table turns out nice enough, I might just give one away. I prefer to make high end tables, there are a million cheap flimsy ones out there. If I get them the way I want, guys will be able to give requirements like seat and table height, table length, # of legs, foldable or removeable, built in rifle rests, ammo holders, spent casing collectors, second rifle storage, camera mount, even cup holders if you want them
I own a small machine shop, and specialize in Aluminum fabrication.
Because I have been on the road doing sales for the last 8 years, I have not had much time to dedicate to the machine shop, which I started 2 years ago. Now that my 'other' business is busy, I am not on the road anymore and have lots of time to make big pieces of metal into small pieces of metal .
I have a 10' 125 ton metal break, mig, tigl plasma cutter, 30 station 50 ton turret punch and a ram style turret lathe. I got rid of the CNC mill, could not find anyone locally that could run it, and I did not have time to learn it.
Most of what I have been doing is repair, tool fabrication and fuel tanks.
This is not my main source of income, it is a hobby.

Cam- I need some specifics on what you are looking for, PM me your ideas and I will see what I can put together.
I am currently waiting for 2" aluminum pipe to come in, going to start with a monopod table, then the 3 or 4 legs units.

Hey ken just a couple of suggestions , the seat should be able to swivle and be raised or lower to accomodate lefties or righties short or tall.. I like to anchor mine down rock solid with a ratchet strap so maybe a couple of rings welded under the frame. I have two sons that I am teaching to long range shoot so let me know what the final cost would be when you get it figured out.

Do you use sandbags or a rest?
Do you like your 'bench top' to be straight in front of you, or do you want a L shape to the left or right depending on LH/RH shooters?
This will very likely be an aluminum top, with a leather covered area on the side for rifle storage.

Hey Ken if it was only for myself I would have an L shape for right handed shooter to rest my elbow on but considering one of my boys is a lefty, it would need to be a square back. For sighting I use a Lead Sled DFT but for a more hunting feel I use a Harris bipod.

Thanks
I just had another cool idea- maybe a moveable 'pocket' for the bipods!
Back to the drawing board.
