Default Winchester Model 1892 44-40

A friend of mine was given a Win Model 1892 44-40 after friend/relative passed away, a gun that had being stored for many years. The screws have being un touched , no cracks in wood. It has an octagon barrel. The rifle is in amazing un altered condition for it's age. Four digit serial # indicates it was built in 1892.
Wondering if those in the know regarding these old Winchesters may know of ballpark value. I do know from 1892 to 1945 [?] over 1 million were produced so probably not overly rare...?

I had a large 1892 collection a few decades ago and still sold 3 or 4 44-40's in vg condition for $1300-$2500at that time.

If your friend has pics of every angle of that gun im betting a few of us here could nail a price within a buck or two....

That is really good of you to offer your help/appraisal of the rifle. The old boy is down south right now but should be able to get pictures in the next two weeks.
Thks.

Speaking of 44-40, do you guys have any leads on ammunition or even brass for that caliber?

I just came by a 44-40 as part of my dads estate. I lucked out and found a guy in Vancouver that sold me 200 new star line brass and a set of die’s. I got lead cast bullets from Terry at Jet bullets. I’m loading them with black powder. I had a heck of a time finding any brass.
