WHAT? This is crazy! I'm sure I bought a few bricks of small and large rifle primers from P&D at Christmas. Not even a year ago. I feel like I paid maybe $70-$80 per brick.
They were selling CCI Minimags at $10/100 and a brick of automatch for $25. I know this because they still have the price sticker on them. (the entire brick of primers didn't have an overall price so that's from memory)
It sounds like things are crazy out there. Maybe I'll check back in 20 years when I might need to buy something
FWIW, I was hunting up in the Hines Creek area this year and the Home Hardware there had lots of stuff at reasonable prices. Powder and bullets. Good inventory.

Wolverine in Red Deer has 1000 CCI large rifle primers up on their online auction. The good thing about an auction is it shows the actual amount people are prepared to spend. Last I checked it was $110 for the brick.

I purchased 5000 Federal shotgun primers for $70/1000 in May, but that was May, and since then they have pretty much become extinct, so anyone that has any, is charging a premium. As always happens, when supplies catch up, prices level out, but they don't drop back to previous levels.

I was really getting some serious range time in before I had my kids and like I mention back in 2017 or 18 there was a glut in supplies so I would just pick up supplies when they would come available and because I live up in fort mac and supplies can be very limited for in store purchases. I definitely have more than I would need but I'm ok with that. I looked and I have about 2000 large rifle magnum primers and 4000 large rifle.

Many items sit with low bids until just before bidding closes, as many people wait until the last minute to bid, trying not to bid up the item.

After reading this thread I have a quick look and I still have 9000 LR primers I picked up when WSS was going out of business. IIFC I was paying ~$40/1000. I should have bought way more.

Same guy was in Hanna, he still had the 65.00 stickers on his powder, then plopped a 100.00 sticker on them, w/o covering the old one. Like he was saying pound salt to people that may have wanted it.

Don't Worry
We will remember him when he needs a part or components. Gunshow guys all know each other and it gets around.

Primers
I came across a copy of Wholesale sports catalogue from 2002, Thought you might get a kick out of the prices. Those who say they were able to buy primers for $30/1000 a few years ago, might actually mean 20 years lol

Which Canadian Tire store had primers at that price? Did they have other kinds of primers?

I was selling primers for $8 bucks/100, LR and mag pistol at the Med Hat gunshow ..... no takers. Guess I was just ripping people off?
Anyhow they came home and will never leave, for any price.

Pricing
What components “Used” to cost is really only relevant for “Remember When”… conversations… Question is, what is it worth to you nowadays?
If ammo for your 28 Nosler is unobtanium. What would you prefer?
80 gr powder at $2.28 (based on $200/lb)
1 Fed 215 primer @.60 ($60/100)
1 Accubond @$1.25 Ea.
Total $4.13/rnd x20= $82.60 per box reloading cost
That box of 20 factory ammo runs $149.99 at Cabela’s, but is impossible to find… So is the cost of reloading your empties really that bad, even if it’s 4 times what it used to cost?

heads up for scams
Has anyone noticed that there are sites online that claim to have lots of primers but only take E transfers or bitcoin as payment. When people get desperate for things there is always someone willing to scam them.

Those prices are even high for auction prices, except for the bullets, which are actually on the low side
.
Powder is typically $80-100/lb at stores
Primers are typically $10-12/100 at stores
Accubonds are running around $1.50
So more like $2.60-2.80 per round. Still high, but a lot cheaper than factory loads.
And if you look around, and are patient, powder and primers can still be found, although primers will likely become totally unavailable in stores soon.
