330 Dakota

I was wondering how good of a rifle a 330 Dakota would be for hunting large game in northern Alberta, I know that brass is hard to come by and that rifles chambered in them are tough to get, but other than those it seems like a good option for elk and moose and when hand loaded right deer and sheep,
just looking for a second opinion

Ya they would be ideal
Another option is a 33 nosler
Very similar and Peterson makes brass for them also

That would be a very expensive equivalent to a 338 Win Mag, which is also currently proving to be expensive and hard to get components for...

Certainly good medicine for large tough critters, but not really necessary for things without claws and fangs.

Also burns quite a bit more powder to get those same results....

.338-06 doesn't quite get the same velocity, but does get you into the game with a lot less powder and '06 brass is easy to find.

It gets speeds more comparable to a 338 RUM than the win, which is nicer for the 250-285 gr bullet range
More speed also means less drop further out than a rifle going slower with the same lead.

Nosler load data online disagrees. Real world performance could very well be different, but this is what I'm finding:

Max Loads of IMR4350 for a 250gr bullet:

I was getting 2750fps on a 250Nos Partition with 75gr/RL19 on my 338WM, never felt a need for anything heavier than that. 2950fps from a 210 Partition with 75gr/H4831 worked just as well.

I was using the Lyman reloading book for reference, they where listing the 330 as within 80 fps of the RUM with 20 gr less powder, very relatable to what the 340 WBY does
