Default Turning a 6.5cm into a 7-08 or .308

Is it possible to turn a 6.5cm into a 7-08 or 308 with minimal work?
Not looking for a new barrel, I’d rather have the barrel drilled out and rifled.
Just wondering my options

It’s probably far cheaper and easier to swap barrels

The cheapest is a take off barrel, if you can find one. A lot of gunbuilders and gunsmiths have take offs around.

If you are looking for a little more zip consider rechambering to 6.5-284.

I won't ask why, but wil offer this:
Easily done, but a rebore is not always the best , or cheapest solution.
A rebarrel certainly is in most cases.

Barrel swap is the easiest and probably the cheapest way to go.

Unless you're lucky enough to find a take off Vanguard barrel, the least expensive and likely the easiest option would be to sell the 6.5CM and replace it with the same rifle in your preferred calibre/cartridge.
New blank $500.00 or so, gunsmithing $150.00- $350.00 depending who you use, plus shipping/ fuel costs.
IMO

I think that might be a bit more complicated.

6.5x284 case is larger diameter and a tad longer, so shouldn't be an issue.
As far as magazines go, the mad should be able to be adjusted to accept the 6.5X284 case I would think.

It would require a different follower no doubt. Not sure about the mag well. Would the receiver work with the fatter cartridge? Bolt might be same.
Just saying might be easier to go with 308 or 7-08.

Bolt face diameter is fine for 6.5-.284 but I think you'd have to put an extended mag box conversion to fit the longer case with 140 grain seated out far enough to not take up case capacity. It could be done of course.

I think a long action would be the way to go with 6.5-.284.
Sticking with a SA cartridge, which the OP inquired about is still the easy button
Just my thoughts on the subject. YMMV

Easiest cheapest fastest way is sell the rifle and buy a new one in the cartridge of your choice.

x100, plus you could probably make money selling the pumpkin spiced latte and buying a Tim’s regular (308).

I just don’t understand why anyone would actually go from a rifle that defies gravity to a rifle that doesn’t.

Might have something to do with the fact that the 308 is old news and as such reloading component can be had for a song compared to anything that has a "mm" in the name

Need to know why you want to go to a 7mm-08 or 308 before I can offer a suggestion.

That. Made my morning! Haha!

To the op, are you looking to change it because ammo is easier to find?

I would agree with the buy and sell or rebarrel it.

I feel like boring it could limit the integrity of you barrel. Not a gunsmith but seems like less material than factory might not be the most wise.

How about 6.5CM to 6.5PRC?

Can that conversion be done by a gunsmith?
