Pretty much the exact opposite of my experience with Barnes. In every rifle I have tried them the TTSX and LRX bullets have turned in amazing groups, with very little effort, fiddling or fine tuning. Just load them fast, seat them about .060-080" off the lands and have it at. My 300 Win Mag would not shoot boat tail bullets of any kind under about 1.5", first two groups with TTSX 180's and same powder were in the 0.4" range.

In my two 7mm-08 rifles I have great results with 120 TTSX and 139 LRX (unfortunately the 139's are not that easy to locate.) Both group very well and have been deadly on game.

Bergers it is! I just hope they make it to the elk before they explode

Elk and deer Bergers it is!

Fire up the bbq.

As I get older I appreciate more and more timeless designs that still stand up.

If they shoot in your rifle- Nosler Partions.

Then again I have been shooting a 30-06 with 180 NPs for the past 35 years—- kids say I don’t like change 😅

I would go with the partitions

30/06 and 180 partitions is a good match
308 and 165 partitions
7-08 and 150 partitions too.

Timeless, much like this thread lol
Its funny timing though. I'm taking a new 708 to the range tonight to see what works in it. 150 NP, 154 interlocks and 162 interlocks.

I'm curious what the preferred bullet was for SNS rifle is/ was though

Stupid azz I am. Traded/sold it for something else. I was in a crazy gun buying and selling phase.

In hindsight, that particular Montana was as good as any gun I have ever owned.

Pencil barrel. That shot everything like a .

And I almost bought it a couple (3?) of years ago from another guy who bought it from the other guy who bought it from you. Don’t remember now why I ended up not buying. Hmm. I should have.

Which bullet can you find easiest? Go with that one. In todays era of shortages get what’s available and get enough so you aren’t scrambling to get set up.

I run a 7x57 and love thee Partition.
The 150 has the same BC as the other 140s practically and will punch thru a cow elk easily.
If they dont fly well in you7-08 I'd go with the Barnes.
My two cents.

Enjoy!

I have had excellent accuracy and on game results shooting 140 Accubonds from my 7=08. Also excellent accuracy with120 grain Barnes but no practical field experience on a game animal yet.

I have shot an elk with 100gr TTSX in my 257 WBY and it did great, the only problem is they need speed to open up nicely, planning on making some hand loads with them this winter.

Seems like Hornady interlocks are the only bullet that’s always on the shelf these days

If you sell your soul to the internet you can usually find the quantity of Barnes you want, but you really need a network of buddies to get you there.

With that said, if you can't efficiently harvest an animal with an Interlock, you are not a hunter

PS, the Montana I had, shot 120g ttsx's into consistent groups of just under an inch at 3080 fps. I consider that an excellent all around 7-08 load......no interlock but still a very good load lol

One trip to the range with a Sako A7 that I've had sitting for several years now, best group was 120gn TTSX, 3 of them at 0.3". Happy with that, and hope it will repeat.

The powder was IMR 4895, haven't measured the velocity yet but I suspect a touch over 3000 fps.

I have never used IMR 4895 in a hunting round, any concerns there? I have since acquired some Varget and H4895, but with the way supplies are I'd like to save those for other guns, and shoot the IMR until it runs out.

There is no problems with IMR4895, it’s been around for a long time, and is used by thousands upon thousands of hunters and shooters world wide.
