Looking for info - PAL Expires with registered guns???????

I have a friend who has let his PAL expire as he has not used his guns in about 15 years he figures. About a month ago he recived a registered letter stating that he must "legally dispose" of the 2 firearms he has, hand down long guns from his passed father. Short of tranferring them to another registered owner or going through the motions of reapplying for a PAL when he has no intention of doing anything, other than keeping these for obvious reasons, any ideas as to ways around this situation? They have been lent to somebody legally entitled to be in possesion of them at this time, however, that likely won't fly being that they can't be registered to him anymore?????

Well look at it this way
You get a parking ticket. Do you pay it or not?

Just tell him to renew his PAL.

License lapse = Guns become unregistered = Possession of "unregistered guns".

There's not much he can do until he sends in his renewal.

Send the renewal in for now, and send off letters to every paper and politician.
