Default Long Range Shot World Record Broken

Wild.

4.4 miles, took 69 attempts, round travelled for 24 seconds before hitting the target.

After 50 shots, maybe you should try getting a little closer.

Wild... indeed

Thats quite the feat.

Now to make it repeatable with less attempts,

would be truly amazing

I'm sure they will try.

That is an awfully long way.

That being said, 69 attempts is quite a few and takes a little bit away from it IMO.

Man I don't know how repeatable it could ever be... Travelling that kind of distance you could never regularly compensate for wind gusts etc.

Cool, but functionally useless. I’m all for the elr game, but having forward spotters to walk you in and firing enough rounds you probably stopped to clean the rifle kinda takes away from it.

I haven’t watched this yet. Was it done with a gravity defying Creedmoor?

If it was, more like 5 or 6 attempts.

So much for one shot, one kill. Interesting, but the attempt needs way less tries.

I guess I should clarify my response. Some people might think I've never shot extreme distances. It took me only five shots to be on at 12 inches high and 12 inches left (a 10moa hold) at 2600 yards in a 50km/h wind. (.50BMG)

Someone on the team probably hit it with a .22 just so they could get home before dark.

That's certainly a long poke. I'd be more impressed if he got it in under 10.

Really, if you have to send 69 rounds to hit your target when you are calling in artillery, with spotters, nobody is super impressed.

I suspect most would have to send 69 rounds to get to 1000 yards.

Guaranteed anyone who shoots two miles or more is super impressed.

Exclamation If it's not repeatable, it's luck.

It would be more impressive if some of the other 68 rounds fired had actually hit the 10' wide X 7' 8" high target, but they didn't. That's not dialing in a shot, that's random luck.

Next guy will be five miles out and do it in 20 rounds, people will still be unimpressed.

It's like when Goose and Maverick got that Polaroid, cockpit to cockpit, with the Mig. I'm sure it took them more than one try, but that was the original, in the new one I'm betting someone does it on their first attempt.

(don't spoil it for me, I haven't seen the film yet)

Not really a comparison, when you have a 'team' that spends a year and a half prepping for this, building a rifle and turning bullets on a CNC lathe.

And, if most people tried it at 1000 yards, the law of averages says some guy hits it on his first shot. Like hitting a hole in one on golf.
Sometimes it's just luck.

Great that they hit it at 4.4 miles. It's impressive. Now that they have it dialed in, hit it 3/5, or even 3/20 and I will be delerious .

This is exactly why it’s impressive. If anyone else could do it better it would have been done.

If they could repeat the shot even 10% of the time, it would be a lot more impressive, one hit and 68 misses, just isn't that impressive.

So to break a world record, you get to try almost 100 times?

It wasn't that many years ago that 2400 meters seemed astronomical, but it is done on a regular basis now.
over 4 miles is very impressive, despite the number of tries.
One does not simply look through a scope and spot hits and misses!

I agree 69 shots makes it sound Hail Mary. And perhaps that's fair.

But.....please realize....doing the math.... that target is about 1.1 MOA. So, excluding some of you real ELR shooters on here (Andy!..you are..) that is you at a 2000 yd target (how many have even done, or worked at that?) expecting to hit within a 21 inch circle. Pretty tough....actually extremely super tough.
Thinking of the amount of condition variation in that large distance, I think we still have to give a little credence to the accomplishment.
