Default Contimplating Tikka...

I have read many interesting views that members have regarding purchasing a new rifle and was looking for a little feedback. I have been researching for a while and think I have narrowed my search to a tikka.

Wholesale Sports has a package deal on right now with a 300 wsm in a stainless hunter with a burris scope (3-9X40) for $1000. I think that is a reasonable price however see no purchasing feedback on this gun which makes me wonder how common this rifle is or are there other drawbacks I don't know about? Can anyone help me out?

Great rifles. Light, the shoot well and are durable...pretty much all you can ask of a rifle. You'll hear people knock the polymer magazine....don't listen, it's as strong as steel.....

Lots of guys and gals shoot them on here.

One more strike and you're out.

I know you have narrowed your search down, so this may be a waste of time. Check this link out and you may change your mind. I'm not sure if the shroud is made from the same material as the magazine, but, if it is, I don't think it's as strong as steel.

I would definitely buy another tikka. I haven't had any problems with mine after 4 seasons of heavy use. Nice smooth action and super tough stock.

Default Good gun for your $$$$

I think that tikka's are great rifles.I think that they are made by sako,so you cant go wrong with that. The only thing about the tikkas that does'nt catch my eye is the fit and finish. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder??? I really like sako rifles, but I think the new sako 85 hunter model is ugly. The older sako's look better.anyhow I heard that tikkas are pretty durable, but like any other tool they will break down, some just faster than others'like in buddys pictures.I dont know,Just go out and buy a gun.

If that doesn't catch your eye maybe the bolt shroud will.

I wouldn't be scared of the Tikka my T3 ss syn has been fine for about 4yrs with no problems. Don't drop the bolt or ram it back into anything and you shouldn't have problems. Most guys might bug you about it looking like tupperware but that all ends when they see it shoot.

I am positive that the other brands have their faults also. I just recall this topic, so I posted for his option to read.
My Weatherby doesn't have any issues.

With regard to the Tikka,
We all have our preferences, that's why we each shoot a unique rifle and caliber. But my guess is that if you are dropping $1000 on anything, you will take care of it. There will always be guys that have more money than brains and will treat a beautiful rifle like a pry-bar, and then criticize the rifle for the damage. Tikka (Sako) wouldn't be in business and selling rifles for $1000 if they were not a quality firearm.
I shoot a Rem Tactical, and for the money I spent, I expect it to look and perform flawlessly for many years to come. If the tikka has caught your attention, purchase it, enjoy it, and never mind what blow-hards say about other manufacturers.
Just my thoughts.

I've got Savage, Remington, Winchester, Tikka, T/C. The tikka shoots just as good as any of them. As far as looks-well that's in the eye of the beholder.

Go ahead and buy one, they shoot great out of the box and have idiot proof instructions on how to adjust the trigger if you need to.
Bet you can't just own one

looks like a good deal,..but I'd check one out in person...they say it's stainless in the heading and in the description they say it has a blued Cr-Mo barrel.......if it really is stainless it's a pretty good deal..if it's blued...it's an OK deal....

buy what you want...never mind what others say....

They are stainless, or at least they were. They had one hanging up with special sign one day when I was there. They are good rifles, I've had a couple, I like the light weight, some don't. I've heard of a couple that didn't drive tacks, but most do.

Some Weatherby rifles were recalled for a defect that could result in injury.

http://www.firearmsid.com/Recalls/FA_Recalls%205.htm

Quote:
WEATHERBY INC. Added 5/27/02
MODEL VANGUARD BOLT ACTION, RIFLES

SERIAL # 00001 - 03810; V0001 - V80966; VX00001 - VX44065; VS0001 - VS23699; VL00001 – VL46984; W0001 – W0099; NV0001 – NV0099
RECALL: If you have a Weatherby, model Vanguard bolt action rifle with a serial number from one of the serial numbers referred to above: USE OF THIS RIFLE MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND SEVERE INJURY. STOP USE OF THIS RIFLE IMMEDIATELY and visit the Weatherby website at www.weatherby.com or call Weatherby at 1 (800) 227-2018 to receive a Bolt Return Kit.

Weatherby Inc. of Atascadero, California, is performing a safety upgrade on all Vanguard by Weatherby brand rifles manufactured between the years 1970 to 1993. The affected rifles bear serial numbers from one of the following series on the receiver:

*

00001 – 03810
*

NV001 - NV0099
*

V00001 - V80966
*

VL00001 - VL46984
*

VS00001 - VS23699
*

VX00001 - VX44065
*

W001 - W0099

The safety upgrade will prevent miss-assembly of the bolt, which might occur on the affected rifles. Such miss-assembly might contribute to a hazardous condition in which the rifle can be accidentally discharged without the bolt being fully engaged, causing severe injury. Only the bolt is being upgraded. Bolts will be returned to the owners following the upgrade.

Yeah, if anyone's interested try googling "Remington recall" as well. I'm sure there's never been any problems with that brand either Almost every brand has had some kind of manufacturing issue's at one time. Maybe it's just me but i'd say tikka's and sako get attacked a lot simply because they're not made by an American company.

i have owned 5 remingtons now and the best one yet was the 788 in a 222 nad they qiut makeing them other then that the others were all 700 and had many problems with them new out of the box ( explains why you always see custum rems) the lattest was the clip not ejecting i had to pound on the ejecting buttons to remove it. then on a varmit the trigger was screwed and on the girlfriends 260 the stock is twisted and i just about takes two hands to chamber a bullet.. i own 5 tikkas and have never had one problem with any of them. they chamber awsome clip is smooth, light weight and a tack driver

just my 2 cents
