Default Canadian Tire money, use it or lose it!

Canadian Tire has made some changes to its loyalty program in regards to Canadian Tire "Money"

If you don't use, collect, or spend within 18 months, the collected "money" is now forfeited.

I have noticed the amount of returns on this loyalty money has also significantly decreased over the past few years. I used to get at least the amount of GST back, now it seems I get only a few cents/hundred dollars of purchase.

I was buying my fuel there and was getting a fistful of 2.00 "bills", now with collecting them on my loyalty card its only pennies.

Remember when Airmiles came up with the disappearing Air Miles , and the backlash it created ? they quickly backed off.

My purchases at Cdn Tire have slowed due to the quality and selection of the merchandise they are now peddling as well.

they only give .04% back. IF you get a Loyalty Triangle Mastercard it is up to 30x that depending on the day. Regular gas is .05c and premium .07c

So are they getting rid of the Canadian Tire money in 18 months? If they intend on keeping it, I don't know how they could say it becomes forfeited in 18 month with the amount in circulation.
Not that I really care. I don't spend any money there anymore. Just gift cards if someone gifts me them. The only thing I do like is CT now sells firearms but they are always overpriced. The ammo is a rip off. The quality of their tools has declined so much I actually prefer to purchase Princess Auto's tools now, at least they will return them when they break.

If you're a memeber of their "triangle club" they sent out an email to notify everyone of the policy change. But this only means if you're inactive for 18 months straight will they forfeit your account. Pretty hard for a lot of folks to not step foot inside a Canadian Tire for 18 months. We all need batteries these days

Is there a link around that someone can share? I’m curious about the wad of cash I have of theirs at home. Looks like I’ll be buying another firearm sooner then later

I think this is the section in question, it has to do with the eCT Money that Triangle members collect, not the paper CT Money that is in circulation.

Quote:
Expiration of Electronic Canadian Tire Money
We may expire the eCTM in your Triangle Rewards Account in the event that there has been a period of inactivity of 18 months or more. For the purposes of this section, “inactivity” means that there has been neither a transaction in which you have collected eCTM, nor a transaction in which you have redeemed eCTM during the period in question.

Ain't been to CT for a few years, but they used to have a big box at the end of checkout where you could drop the stuff and the "amount" would be donated to various charitys.
Still in place?
Dunno.

That explains why didn't see the email I have the triangle master card I'm not a member of the club. I can see why they would do this there's thousands of accounts with .21 cents in them nobody ever cash's in.

I don't believe in cryptocurrency. Good old Canadian Tire bills for me.

Is the Canadian Tire dollar still worth more than the Canadian Loonie.?

Too bad but I was done with them anyway. Treated me like a terrorist when I bought pellets for the pellet gun. Not with 10 million bucks... Escorted me right to the front with my box of .177 death.

Yup, they still have the donation kettles... the ‘money’ goes to the Jumpstart program to give underprivileged kids a chance to get involved in sports.
Have always donated my CT money there...those kids need the pittance it’s worth more than I.

No problem at all, I'm at about 10 years now.

All they sell is junk, especially their tools.

Buy what you need and avoid any ct card,if you think your beating them out you need a brain scan.Ct is nothing but a scam on a higher level when they give folks credit on stuff they mark up to whatever suits there money market.

There money market doesn't flow at .04 percent x 30,if you think that's a deal then go for it.

As a Canadian, I refuse to shop at CHINA TIRE. The off gassing of all that toxic sh*t from china hits you pretty hard when you walk in, same as the dollar store.

I use the Triangle MasterCard (what used to be the Canadian Tire MasterCard) as my main credit card. The only other I use is President’s Choice MasterCard to fill up with gas and buy groceries at NoFrills, Superstore, etc. Everything else is paid for with the Triangle. I collect about $500-600 annually in Canadian Tire money. I bought a very nice patio set a few years ago paid for with CT money, a couple of years worth of collecting. I bought a $500 lawn mower with CT money, among other things. I usually pay for my tires with Canadian tire money (changing two at a time). Last year I bought this gun at Canadian Tire:

And I only paid a hundred and change in real money. Not sure why people are complaining about their guns being expensive. Every gun I bought there was at least $300 cheaper than anywhere else I looked online (except for the 10/22). The above Browning X-Bolt in .243 was $699 on clearance. I actually lucked out because I was coming to the store to pay $899 for it, which was the price I saw a few days previously. When I got to the store, I found out they had a firearms clearance event, so they dropped additional $200 off. Was a nice surprise.

With the premium (whatever it is called, World or something) Triangle MasterCard you also get a free road side assistance Canadian Tire provides, aka CAA, for free. My wife and I both have this credit cards. I can’t find anything better, really.

As for them carrying crap, well, it is just like any other store nowadays. You can find the crap you need if you need it. Tools are far from being perfection, but ain’t no way I would compare their tools to Princess Auto. The later one is pure garbage.

Edit: to add, I don’t really shop Canadian Tire much either.

If Asia would stop taking Canada's rotting plastic it probably wouldn't smell so bad.

Triangle Mastercard money on the card can be used at Mark's and Sportcheck.

It's amazing how fast the amount builds up if you use the card for virtually everything.

And not everything at CT is China made, picked up some Paderno frying pans while on sale lately...made in Canada!!!
