tanning
Tanning is a fairly involved process. Firstly your hides will need to be fleshed out thoroughly. My experience with some of the older systems is that a pickle will follow. Next is the actual tanning process. There are many on the market these days for reasonable costs. Next you'll likely need an oil or conditioner to maintain pliability. Add the effort of a head mount if your going that route, and as indicated a liner (if desired). Felt pinking was popular years ago although I think it's fallen from favour. Commercial shops have the fleshing machines, batch containers, chemicals, hydrometers, etc. Doing it one your own on a one up is hard, but a good learning process.
