Still have not shot a bird for the boy but he does like to be out. The cold actually has up'ed his energy. And in general he loves the field. 71/2 months at this point.

Default Pup's growing up...

Getting out there with the pup and her momma. Pup's finally getting big enough to handle a rooster retrieve. Not many partridge kickin' around this year, so letting them re-establish and workin' on cagey pheasant. Have had some great days so far - Heck, they're all great when you're in the field!

Fry - you're gonna have to let me know how you taught Rooster to pose like that...mine won't comply with photo opps. He's looking great btw.

Goldscud - are you going to let everyone know where the 'entrance' is?

Pudelpointer - you've gotta have some good pics to post...

Great photos everyone! Keep 'em coming!

My buddy's Griffon, Milo, has been enjoying his first actual year of hunting. Last year he walked around behind his master while hunting. It has been interesting to watch a dog with zero training learn how to hunt by watching my GSP look for birds. While I haven't seen Milo point ever, he is definitely finding birds on his own now. And to our amazement he retrieved his first bird this weekend. His master hasn't even played fetch with a ball with this dog. Milo is completely self-taught. He is now 3 years old. It will be interesting to see if he ever points.

Looks like I deleted my pic from earlier, oops. heres a slightly tweaked version of the original..

Here are a few from today,
The first real snow fall of the year netted a fair amount of snow, we seen lots of hens and one small cock.
We did end up one hun and one sharptail, should of been more but a few times it was feathers in the air and no birds on the ground. Not sure how they weren't folding. I tried taking a nice pic but was pretty tired from all the snow stomping it didn't turn out to nice

Here is Rooster trying his best in the snow.

Default Vet Wrap?

Good Morning Densa, nice looking dog and roosters, looks like you're getting your limits in the snow. What is the purpose of the vet wrap?
Here's a late October hunt photo.

Smile Vet wrap?

She is a very hard going dog and the snow/ice was very sharp that day. We use mushers secret to keep the snow from balling up on her warm paws, and to keep the ice from plucking all the fur off of her legs when I pull the chunks off, I cover her legs with vet wrap. We have shin guards too but the vet wrap works better.

She is pregnant too and I don't want her to be injured.

Some pics from this fall:

Parker retrieving a pheasant that made a failed attempt to get to safe ground across the river.

Parker and my best bud from BC and his first AB pheasant, actually his first pheasant ever; a big wild rooster.

Kiva checking out the shoreline at CPR lake. Lots of smells and feathers to eat.

Parker and a couple roosters; one wild and one released.

No dog in these pics, but I like them just the same. The only ruffie I took this year, on the very last day of bow season in the 300s:

Went out today, shot my biggest pheasant to date. I don't really live in pheasant country so even though its not that big its a real treat. There should be more birds down there, the habitat is there, food is there, water, etc, must be too many preadators and birds don't get released down there so the very few that are there are wild and cagey.
Anyway, long story short, this time last year I was out chasing a pheasant in the exact area on this exact day with my lab Hemi. She ended up with cancer and got put down around christmas last year, her ashes got spread like 20 yards away from where I shot the bird today. Pretty neat, I think I will get it mounted just as a reminder of this day, last year and Hemi.
