26 nosler? 338 edge? New gun or rebarrel old one.
Kinda sitting on the fence. I can get my rem 700 300 rum tuned up and rebarreled to 26 nosler for almost the same price as a Browning in 26 nosler. What would I expect the new barrel would do over the Browning? The other side of the coin is I have a life time supply of 300rum brass. Would I be better off to rebarrel to 338 and resize my brass to 338 edge? I've already got a couple 3 338's. Decisions. What to do?

Not having a Browning is always a plus. Even if it means a 26 Nosler as an alternative. But I always hate choices where all are bad. Sell it and buy something for your wife.

Norwest Alta...you have magnumitis, not an easily curable affliction, but if you drink the juicy red 6.5 CM koolaid you might find peace?

As stated creedmore needmore. Figured it would be kinda neat to join the 6.5 club but with some ponies behind it and to tell the truth I shot that 300 rum a couple of times and absolutely detest it but not enough to take a liking to that other thing you mentioned.
Magnumitis? I'm telling here you called her that. Lol
I like my Browning.

Seems like the logical choice for me to since I've got the brass already but I'm not sure that it'll out do the 338 rum. I guess that they like the 300gr bullets though.

Do you have any big 7mm? Could build a 28 Nosler. I'd stay away from the 26, just to overbore for me. The 26 doesn't actually run much faster than my 6.5 Sherman with 140's. THe EDGE is a very good option but I see you already have three 338's. A big 30 cal would be cool as well to shoot 215 gr Berger and heavier with at least a 9 twist.

Nothing in 7mm. But yah the 28 nosler is a option. Got/Had the big 30's. Never had one that wasn't ignorant. I don't know anything about the Sherman but sounds like reloading components might be as rare as hens teeth. I was really hoping to do a 6.5x300rum but any advice I've got says that is a stupid idea.

X2 if you're stuck on keeping that thing, 8 twist barrel and run some 103-108 gr stuff and rediculous speeds. I've always heard these don't bite too hard. Definitely sell the browning though.

So no Browning fans. What could I expect my new rebarreled rem 700 would do that a new rifle wouldn't? Both in 26 nosler.

Exactly, sell the cannon, buy a 6.5 'for the mrs' and have some fun. Go the opposite end of spectrum and check out the 6.5 Grendel. Nothing says you're a secure confident individual quite like owning a 6.5 G. Ask me how i know, i'm picking up my 3rd one from post office on way home from work today.

What about the Browning I already got? It's a nice 25-06 for the girlfriend. Must look at this grendal thing you speak of.
3? Can't find a good one?

If you have a life time supply of 300 Rum brass, why not stay on that path.
Re-barrle and go hunting, or sell it.
Own 1 rifle or lots, you will be the one that gets to decide the out come.
One thing about it, both the 300 and 338 can reach out there.

The 300rum isn't shot out. I think very few are. Just don't like it or any 30 cal magnum. Imo they're better off thrown in the bush.

I am with you on the 30cal big stuff hate all of them.
I would look at 6.5-300RUM over the 26 Nosler, since you have all the brass.
But would look at 6.5-300 weatherby before the Nosler, nosler has been notoriously picky on loads.
I would take a 338RUM over the 300RUM everyday.

Talked to the gunsmith and 6.5x300rum has been tried and proved to be a failure unfortunately. Lol. I would surely like to be able to use the 300 rum brass. Since I've got a 338 rum maybe a guy could go to a 35 cal?
Would a guy be able to go from 30 cal to 35 cal or is that a little much for the brass?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing, just curious what it is that you hate about all .30 magnums?
It's a very popular category.

Can't stand the recoil on them mule kicken things. Could shoot my 338's all day braked or nonbraked. Those 300's are a different animal all together imo.

I used to shoot a 300 Weatherby, granted in a sporterised Mauser at who knows how many pounds, buy it was not bad for 15-20 rounds. Even my .270 gets to be too much recoil after enough rounds though.
Never owned a .338, but physics would say that the .338 cal magnums would have greater recoil than an equivalent .30 cal. magnum. Maybe a case of expectations?
I'm sort of looking for a .30 magnum or similar, my biggest rifle is a .270 win right now but I'm not a recoil lover neccesarily.

If you're in the area I'll let you try and you be the judge. I've tried most of the 30 cal mags and I'll never have another. 375 hh is more pleasant to shoot imo.

You could make a 375 RUM or H&H, RUM brass is easy to sell, out of it, or you could put a brake on it for target shooting, take it off for hunting. Kick is irrelevant when shooting at game but I agree the RUMS particularly are nasty kicking guns, both the 7 RUM and 300 RUM have a real sharp punch to them that is way more than unpleasant. Until I put a Mercury recoil suppressor and Decelerator pad on my 7 RUM it was the nastiest kicking gun I have ever shot, more unpleasant than my 460 Bee.
Now I have a Kantrol clamp on brake for it that I use for target work and take it off to hunt. I would try the same thing, Mercury recoil suppressor, Pachmeyre Decelerator pad for hunting and removable brake for targets, with your 300 RUM before swapping out the barrel.
