Default Hornady 50 grain vmax

I am going to start using this ammo for coyotes this winter in my 22-250, how much damage does it do on fur?

Thanks

in 22-250? all depends on distance, velocity, shot angles, bones hit, etc. But what I can tell you is it will put a big hole more often than a small hole. Just my personal experience.

i shot a few this winter with that exact combination and it's not a bad hole. Here is a picture, not the greatest detail, but the best I have.

I've used a 55gr Vmax out of my .223. Considering that mine likely fly slower than a 50 grainer out of a 22-250, they still make bigger holes than what I would prefer in terms of pelt damage. I'm going to investigate something different, perhaps a Sierra 69 grain with which I get superb accuracy. A problem that I see with the 22-250 is their inherently slow twist out of factory barrels which is detrimental to shooting heavier bullets.

In terms of your bullet/caliber choice, I believe that you'll do just fine at extended ranges. But short range shots inside of 150 yards or so will blow big holes into them dogs.

If you don't stoke the load right up and stay away from the shoulders and other bone you should be good.

The rapid displacement of internal organs is what causes the big holes....my buddies 220swift blows the armpits out of coyotes....
