Default Restricted license question

I'd like to get my restricted license and was wondering where in Edmonton would be a good place to go and if the coarse would be best or is challenging the exam the best way? I have a few years experience with firearms. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Call Dean @ tactical advantage. Had some dealings with him & he seemed like a decent guy.
Pistolsmith.ca is his web site.

So if you challeng the exam and pass do they just add the "R" to your existing PAL or do you have to start from scratch with the rcmp check..sponsers..new photo ..etc..etc..??

How many handguns have you handled in your life? revolvers? semi's? 1911's?

Pretty hard for anyone here to give you advise on challenging the course or not....I would say take the course and learn as much as you can even though you might already know....what can it hurt?

Sure you could probably challenge it; but if you don't have a lot of experience with handguns, take the course. I challenged my non-restricted with Dean (who is great), but I took the restricted course through P&D.

As part of the P&D course, you get an opportunity to handle pretty much every flavor of handgun. Your goal should not be to pass, it should be to learn how to be safe.

After applying, you will get a new PAL card with a new number, usually ".0002" instead of ".0001". It will also state "Restricted" on the back.

I've shot revolvers, semi's and a 1911 before. I was wanting to take the coarse but they (Phoenix) said they are booking for the end of July right now, and I kinda wanted it sooner. I'm no gun exprert, but I've used enough of them to have a basic knowledge of them.
