I've hunted the Calgary bowzone for 35 years now with some very good friends, taken some nice deer but only lately started hunting elk up there..all came together yesterday afternoon with my first archery elk ..gotta love the snow

Well full story would take a looong time but abridged version ... i tried to sneak in to get a shot at a herd of 39 animals feeding in some stubble but on the way in i spooked a bedded wt doe and she sent the elk in their way ..i tried to get around them to cut em off but they beat to the open and bedded again . So i set up in the timber hoping they would come back and they did ..twice. first time i had calves racing around the woodpile i was seated on , within 10 ft ,and cows at 20 yds ..fed past and caught my wind and came back and rebedded in field at 100 yds .. now it sounds like the dumbest bunch of elk in the world and maybe they were cause 2 hrs later they again past by ,this time on the other side and when bull got to 46 yds i took my shot and he made it 200 yds before piling up ...when anyone gives you the choice between skill and good luck , take luck everytime .

That's an awesome bull and the hunt will be even more memorable because you took him with your bow.
