Default H870 equivalents

I was recently given four unopened pounds of H870, which is now obsolete but widely used with heavy-for-caliber bullets when it was available. I want to use it for .257 WBY and 6.5 PRC if possible. Manuals often have load recipes for similar slow burning powders (H1000, US869), but without published load data for H870, how would a person go about determining min/max charges reliably? It seems a little risky using someone else’s recipe verbatim... I was thinking to just start at the low end of all the published powders for that bullet and work up from there. I’ve read good things about H870 in the .257, so I hope to realize some good results given the volume of powder I have on hand.
