Default different names for BDC scopes

There are many different names used by marketers to describe various alternate systems of turret and reticle calibration,
(usually expressed in yds or meters)
designed to simplify operation for those who do not like or understand MOA or MilRad systems.

These systems are usually referred to by acronyms like,

BDC - bullet (ballistic?) drop compensation (or compensating)

What are others? and the brand using it?

Good Luck, YMMV.

I guess you could say mil-dot would be considered this.

Mil-dot is just a specific reticle common in MilRad systems,
and is in no way what I would call a BDC.

Still could use it for the same idea though, even if you don't consider it. If you couldn't, it'd be kinda pointless.

I agree, that MOA or Mil-Rad turrets and reticles primary use is to enable compensation for bullet or ballistic drop at various ranges.

By the term BDC I am referring to turrets marked with ranges (in yards or meters) and reticles marked with holdover aim points for specific ranges. These turrets and reticles are designed for specific loaded cartridges. The most common term is BDC, but IIRC some brands use other terms for marketing purposes to support their claims that their system is 'special' and superior.

Good Luck, YMMV.

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but Leupold calls their BDC by the Boone and Crockett moniker. Must have paid them for the rights. Bushnell call's some of theirs "DOA"

Leupold has the CDS (custom dial system) that works well for a hunting application. Vortex has the Dead Hold BDC reticle that works well providing you use their online ballistic calculator.

Default Bdc

Zeiss Rapid Z system. Use the scopes magnification settings to tune reticle to your cartridge.

I've always been weary on bdc reticles till I picked up my viper hs with the dead hold bdc. I really like it! It doesn't clutter up my sight picture. Just be sure to shoot your gun at various ranges to figure out what each line is good for. And don't forget to be on full power otherwise you'll shoot way to high. I hate Nikons bdc circles they run. Way to much going on in my sight picture
