You need to build this - just because!

like cat said the +P is a hotter load
yer good to go with that rifle and +P ammo
if I ever purchase new thats all I buy
I only ever buy factory ammo for the brass value
as I reload for mine
I have the exact same rifle and caliber
have shot everything from mice to moose with it including Elk and black bear

Totally get the fact there's only 20 in a box of pre-loaded, but I imagine brass isn't exactly easy to come by.

The main thing was it gets his young fella shooting right away, and it's good factory ammo & cases to reload.

And I based that price from the ones I saw at WSS, the cheapest Hornady brass they had was .223 @ $40-$45. Even .243 was $50-$55.

Not to say it can't be found for cheaper, but I digress...

I have never had a hard time finding it. I thought it might be drying up a year or so ago so I put out a WTB ad. A CGN member sent me 100 new Winchester brass for free and had more for sale. Then, next time I went to town, of course there was a bunch more on the shelves at WSS of all places.

I based my comments on the fact that my LGS has plenty of Winchester Roberts brass in Stock at $40/bag...

If supply of 257R runs out 7 X 57 necked down works fine.

Another one that will work is 6.5x55
set a 257 Roberts beside a 6.5x55 and its hard to tell the difference

years ago I hunted with 3 friends (all gone now rest their souls) one had a 25-06 one had a 243 one had a 6mm I shot and still shoot a 257 Roberts
the 25-06 had a very slight advantage over the 257 Roberts until I started reloading then the 25-06 had a hard time to out do it
couldn't tell which killed deer better cause they all dropped dead and dead is dead
I shot Elk and moose with mine but my friend wth the 25-06 never
so we couldn't compare them with the larger game
the only time I felt under gunned was up past tony tower and a huge Grizzly stood up in front of me at about 70 yards away
then I felt a tad under gunned
