Default Question for the car guys

I have a 2011 Jetta I5, 5 speed standard, 50k on it.

Driving down the freeway and without any warning car goes into neutral. Pulled off the road engage clutch, shift into 1st gear and nothing when i let out the clutch. Engine revs no power to the wheels.

Had to get it towed to the dealer and waiting for the bad news, anyone ever experience this issue.

Very common problem. Go online, google something like "jetta pops out of 5th gear" You'll find tons of info.

Not popping out of gear, no power getting to the wheels. I am thinking the clutch crapped out and is not making contact to the fly wheel. Thing is there was no warning at all, no sound or physical warning. Just quit working!

It only has 50,000 klm on the car and the clutch & tranny was working fine, no issues at all and then wham.

If your clutch went out, you wouldn't be able to shift it into gear with the engine running. Sounds like the input shaft snapped or something internal in transmission let go.

Trying to start out in 2nd gear may have told you whether it's a clutch problem or a transmission problem. It might be a shifter problem also.

I could put it into any gear including reverse while the motor was running and/or with clutch was depressed or not.

Looks like the clutch exploded as it mirrored what happen to the guy in the link I posted. Even down to the strange shudder he experienced. I never thought much of it but in the am while I was running errors and i was backing out of a parking stall the clutch acted a little weird (shudder). It only happened for a second and then everything was fine until the freeway that afternoon.

I have drove a lot of miles using a standard shift and have never experienced a failure like this.

Javelin101, what ended up being the issue? Was it a rivet failure on your clutch?
