Default Seasonal movement of fish in streams

Does anyone know how fish move seasonally within a stream?

I only know that in the fall that they stack up in deep pools to overwinter. What do they do when the flow is high in the spring? What are they doing in late August.

Is their movement generally the same across the Eastern slopes or do the fish in ES3 act differently than say ES1.

it really depends on the species of fish. some like cutties are spring spawners so they will be moving to the spawing streams or areas in the spring time and then dispersing after that to the rest of the river and the holding pools and runs.
other fish like browns are fall spawners so they will be moving in the fall to their spawning streams and areas and rest of year to the pools and runs in the river.
species like grayling and rockies will migrate up rivers in spring then either move to their over wintering holes as fall approaches or depending on the trib might even move into the main river (like on the Athabasca and its smaller tribs like windfall) for the winter.
bulls tend to move a lot in a river system during the year while other fish if the stream structure is right might not move more then a couple of hundred yds from their home/wintering water to their spawing grounds all year.
so it really depends on the species, the river system and availability of spawnign grounds as to how much or where fish migrate.

Thanks for such a good response. It makes a lot more sense now.
