Thanks, sir. I did manage to make it out. The cutts were HUGE! Our biggest (okay… my wife hooked it, not me) wouldn't fit into my net. Didn't have a tape, but we think 30-31" and FAT.
I THINK I tagged my first bull. I had a hit on a dry and it felt decent. And then all of a sudden things just got a lot harder to handle and whatever I had went straight to the bottom and parked there. Not matter what I did, I couldn't move this off the bottom. It stayed completely still for about 30 seconds, and then it came to life again for a bit. Then all of a sudden it felt like there was nothing there. I stripped in and there was a cuttie on the end floating upside down. About 16". I seriously doubt that a trout that size would pull that hard, so I'm thinking a bull got hold of it shortly after I hooked. Anyway, that's how I want to think of it!
A lot of fun! I'll be heading back for sure.
The only downer was that we did see a couple of guys (one named Earl from what we heard) in a powerboat head straight from the launch to the northwest bay and proceed to fish right in front of the Smith Dorrien Creek. No cell reception and I had no camera or else I would have been in touch with RAP. Earl, if you're out there, shame on you and your buddy. You should know better.
