I agree, that MOA or Mil-Rad turrets and reticles primary use is to enable compensation for bullet or ballistic drop at various ranges.
By the term BDC I am referring to turrets marked with ranges (in yards or meters) and reticles marked with holdover aim points for specific ranges. These turrets and reticles are designed for specific loaded cartridges. The most common term is BDC, but IIRC some brands use other terms for marketing purposes to support their claims that their system is 'special' and superior.
