Default Fly Fishing Montana.

Hey everyone, So for the past few years me and my dad have done the annual fly fishing trip to the oldman/livigstone ect for 10 days but were looking for a change of pace and thinking south of the border. Were looking for a general area where we can camp and have fishing relatively close by we have a small trailer so all campsites are accessible we prefer streams and creeks and medium smaller rivers, strictly walk and wade and not looking for massive fish just enough fish to make it worth the drive. we have 10 days and were open to all recommendations in the entire state. So if anyone has any advice on places with the above type of fishing thank you for your advice and please share your stories to!

thanks.

We fished the north fork of the flathead river. It forms the west border of glacier national park just south of the border. The best part is that you can camp in glacier and you do not need a fishing licence as long as you access the river from the park side. Well I should restate that, your park access is also your licence. The fish were small but I bet we had 75 fish days each. It was crazy. Lots of good cutthroat action. Anyway, sounds like it would be a good spot for you. Close camping, lots of fish.

You can camp right on the edge of the Missouri in the town of Craig. Craig is an awesome little town with 3 flyshops and a great BBQ place called Isaacs. Its only 40min outside of GreatFalls. Lots of public access for fishing.
Hard to beat a town that lives and breaths trout.

Default Montana Fly Fishing

We spend a week south of Bigfork every September. I fish the Swan and the north fork of the Flathead. The Swan is especially wadeing friendly, with lots of cutthroat action. Beautiful scenery and not busy at all, especially in September.

Stop in at Bigfork Anglers Flyshop for a report when you get there. Great people and a great shop.

Have fun and let us know how you make out.
Pyke.
