What works best s to get at least two manuals and read the parts on reloading before you start.
Then, follow their load data and case prep instructions.

Come on guys, just answer the question.
I have had good results with H335 and 55 gr hornady Vmax bullets. My load which I worked up to was 1 grain under max from the hogdon manual.

I thought I did!
Martin, you know danged well that there is no possible way i could shoot the same load that I use in my .223 long range rifle in a factory rifle , or any long range match rifle load in a hunting varminter, they just won't go 90% of the time, and if they do, you won't get the bolt closed!

The reason these posts don't get answered much anymore and get jabbed at a little bit is because they have been asked hundreds of times.
Airforce, just run a search and I'm sure you will get all the answers you need.

Cat's first reply is right on the money.
Would be great if there was a course that could be taken.

That's very nice of you martinbns. Mine is 55gr. VMax behind 25.5gr of Varget and WSR primers.
But, since the OP is new to reloading, I think that Cat's reply is even more appropriate. It's not that we're being jerks, it's just that new reloaders need to be reminded to be cautious and should thoroughly understand the possibilites before endangering themselves.

Let me tell you a story from last summer.
We did our water side dyke inspection, and observed a family of osprey at the canal, I told my kids we saw some osprey at work, they replied "what are osprey" so I told them to go look it up on the computer.
Well you'd have thought I'd just asked them to mow the lawn with a pair of scissors.
I persuaded them to put their collective noses to the grind stone, and they reluctantly did.
They were amazed there were such birds in Alberta, and asked when I could take them to see them.
I see these sorts of questions in a very similar light.
Cat and Gitrdun are spot on in their suggestion to do some research on your own.
The gratification is'nt instant like a video game, but it's far more satisfying in the long run.
If it matters on bit I've used IMR3031, H322, Benchmark, BLC2, 748, and Varget in 223's over the years.
Varied primers, cases, bullets etc.
What I did find of the 3, 223's I've had over the years no two liked the same load.
So back to the books, and the bench is my best suggestion.

you want some advise on reloading in general? if you dont already have one, get yourself a good reloading manual and choose a powder that you want to try and start at the bottom of the load range for your powder and work your way up (2-3 loads each) to find the formula your gun likes, i've been reloading for 11 years and you will have a hard time finding 2 guns that like the same load, as for bullets my personal favorite is a 50gr moly coated hornady vmax stoked with 21gr of IMR-4198, or 20gr of reloader-7. i can load them heavier but then accuracy suffers as a result and the few fps added velocity is not worth it to me as i do a fair bit of shooting at 500+ yrds

alot of manuals show most accurate powders tested.thats where i always start unless it is some goofy powder that nobody has been able to get for years.i have found over the years that staying away from top loads usually produces more accuracy.

I think you might be loading your ammo backwards.

So, is it the primer, bullet or powder charge that creates the problem? Another red herring.

27.5 gr. of H4895 behind a 40 gr. VMax fired by Winchester primers works for my rifle.
