I have heard this before and forgot mention it. Can be bad news.

I dont recall if i saw it as a kid when dad was the shooter.

Had a vet put down a horse once. Horse stumbled backwards and swayed around before he went down, gotta keep your wits about you, no matter what. The mare I had to shoot was down and couldn't get up, forehead was the only and logical option. No muss, no fuss.
