Default Little Engine that could

Very interesting quote from Coach Hartley that if they would have listened to all the so called experts last fall they could have spent the winter in Punta Cana Mexico. Nobody told these kids they couldn't knock off the defending Stanley Cup Champions in 4 of 5 games so they just went a head and did it.
Look out Vancouver some underaged inexperienced giant killers coming to a city near you very soon.

Nope. Just showing the golfing oilers how their style of play looks.

Calgary drives a hard work ethic in 81 games. With nothing on the line nobody needed to get hurt. No need to kill themselves.

Funny. The oilers played the whole season like it didn't matter.

Cough...cough...sputter...sputter.

Ahem.

That is like saying the Oilers are not in pain because...

Oh wait. The Oilers are not in pain cause they shot themselves and got mounted and stuffed and are now at home watching the Flames on TV.

For any Oiler fan to talk trash about ANY other team having crappy management......That's like the Black Hole calling the pot black.

Twisty and Pixie if you don't see the value of home ice, there is little hope for you.

I'm sure everyone knows the advantage of home ice advantage.
Except maybe the Soilers.

What everyone doesn't know is the health of the Calgary players that sat out. The Flame's coaching staff would have to weigh the value of home ice advantage vs resting some banged up players.

Also, in order for the Flames to pass the Canucks, Vancouver would have had to lose in regulation. Given the Canucks opposition, the chances of that happening were slim.......really slim.

Home Ice Advantage a Myth in Playoffs?
Quote:
5: Home ice is an advantage?
Myth: Another theory the Kings are discrediting is the importance of home ice in the playoffs. L.A. is 8-0 on the road in the post-season, while going 4-2 at Staples Center. Likewise, New Jersey has found ways to win away from home, going 6-4 in road playoff games. Vancouver lost all three of its home games in Round 1, while the Bruins and Panthers dropped do-or-die Game 7s in their own buildings. Even the Red Wings, who won a league-record 23-straight home games during the regular season, lost both their games in Detroit in the opening round. And in a developing trend, the last four Stanley Cups have been clinched on the road.
New Insights Involving the Home Team Advantage

Quote:
With respect to differential home team advantages, there appears to be little evidence of

Home ice advantage has become just that; a cliche

Home ice advantage is a theory that may have had merit once upon a time. Now, it’s a myth, a fallacy, borne out of days gone by.

Default Battle of Alberta

It's post session -- the Battle of Alberta is over for me and now I will be supporting the Alberta team that made the payoffs. Hopefully they do well and make another couple of rounds.

Battle of Alberta can re-start next fall.

Good luck to the Flames.

Flames had a good record in road games this year (22-17-2). Home ice may be important, but resting key players is more important, especially after LA decided to play lumberjack all night on Hudler and Gaudreau.

Seems like they made the right call.. The Oil gave up a big lead.

Even with out knowing the final outcome between Van and Ed, I think sitting guys was good idea. Though, I do have a issue with JG not out right being the top Rookie in points. Perhaps one more game would have given him the 100% win.

But its not about individual trophies, it's about this TEAM. It's been a team first attitude all season (Well actually since about 1/2 way through last year).

You mention that Flames are "Just happy to be there". Your Damn rights they are, along with a million people here in Cow town. Making the playoffs is a big deal these days. It's not like the 80's where most everyone made it and if you did not, you were truly a bad team. Now a days good teams are not making it.

We were forecasted to fight it out with the Oilers for last place. That didn't happen.

All season long people said it was just "LUCK" and that the truth would show it's ugly head. It didn't

People thought they were dead with 8 losses in row. They came back

People thought the monster road trips would kill them. It didn't

People thought JG would slow down. He didn't

People thought they were a dead team when Gio got hurt. They over came it.

What else can you say Kannon? This is one tough team that will not quit. Loads of heart and they believe in themselfs.

So yeas, we are just happy to be here. But now they are and I am sure they will continue to gain knowledge and experience on a game by game basis.

This is going to be fun.

Jamie
