So was the first bear you shot a young boar or sow.
Your boy looks like he likes the outdoors.

Finally got some down time! Been a long couple days filled with great memories.

So after I realized that my target bear was still alive and came into the bait right after we left the morning hunt with the first bear all I could think about all day was slipping back in there to get a chance at my target bear!

The plan was to get in there around 6 set up and wait. If nothing transpired with 1 hr legal light left my buddy and son where going to get out of the bait and leave. Playing the ol trick to fool the smart bear.

We were running late up to the bait and got to our walk in point around 6:30. I checked my phone to see if there was any pics sent and sure enough I had just got a pic 1min ago!! My heart started to race and when I open the pic it was him he just got on the bait!

Quickly changing the plan to a spot and stalk I ready my bow and with son in tow my buddy and I started to quietly walk to the trail head that leads to our bait. The wind was perfect blowing very strong and loud giving me good cover sound.

Once we got to the tree line 30 yards from bait. I took off the boots turned on the go pros attached to my bow, my son and buddy hung back to watch

I slithered in 30-25-20 yards I could now see the bear was on the bait!! And he is HUGE. Bigger than I thought. Having no shot at this distance due to all the willow and slash

I kept inching my way in 20-15! Then all the sudden I stepped to the side and a window between all the willow and slash opened up enough for me to see right into the boiler room!

As soon as I seen the clear shot I drew back and anchored the pin in his vitals and sent a prayer out then let the arrow fly!! The arrow found its way through the forest floor and

Right away I seen the placement was good but it didn’t look like deep penetration. The bear ran off and I stood there listening for the death moan. NOTHING. Didn’t hear any struggling, crashing or moaning just silence.

Thinking oh great hit the shoulder and he’s gone. I called to my buddy and son to join me to go look for blood. We get up to the bait at the point of contact and there is no blood. We walk 10 yards in the direction he ran no blood. Then we find the arrow and sure enough only 6 inches are broken off and no blood on the rest of the arrow.

My heart sank and as I am looking at the arrow in disbelief telling my buddy I think I hit shoulder my son says Daddy HES RIGHT THERE!! I turn around and he’s only another 10 yards up the trail piled up. I didn’t see him because I was looking down so hard for blood haha

Walked over to him confirmed he was dead and let out a huge cheer of relief!! Smacked him dead in the heart and the bear ran 20-25 yards and piled up with out a sound.

Once I got up to him there was no ground shrinkage it was quite the opposite. I tried to lift him and could hardly move him. My buddy and I took everything we had to turn him around and get him position for pics! Without a scale we had in between around 350-400 but man I would have loved to been able to weigh him cause he was a tank.

This is by far my biggest bear I have ever shot and laid my hands on. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to harvest such a beautiful bear but best of all I got to have my son watch the whole thing. We have been hunting bears together since he was 3 and this was our 3rd season trying and first time getting bears together!! He was so pumped and I was so fulfilled on the adventure!!

Thanks for following my journey it was a blast to take you along. Stay tuned as I captured all the bear kills between my buddy and I (3) on video and will have them ready to go at a later date. Once again thanks!

What a Brute! Congrats on your harvest. Best bear thread this year! When you have the skull measured please share the score. What did your hide measure out at?
Congrats again!

Thanks! Will do just waiting for the measurement. Skull is on boil at the taxidermist right now. The hide measure 6.5’!

I find bears dead weight is always the worst to move compared to other animals. Congratulations again

That is a nice bear but it takes a lot to get a spring bear over 300 lbs. They are about 100 lbs lighter than they were in the fall. As others have said, bears feel heavier than they are. Fresh killed they are like picking up a bag of jello. That makes them feel much heavier and they sagged anywhere u aren't supporting them. Even if you can easily lift a 250 pound barbell a bear of the same weight will feel like it is double that.

You have had some great results off your baiting work. Congratulations.

Great bear!

Curious on the death moan. Of the many many bears I’ve shot, I’ve only heard it once. Would it be more prevalent on a bow kill?

I have shot 6 now with my bow and only two have not death moaned. I have also watched my buddy shot one on my bait with his rifle and it death moaned as well. So I don’t think is a weapon thing more of a shot placement and distance the bear goes kinda of thing.

Thanks for the thread and vicarious adventures, glad to see things went so well.

One small suggestion: It’s not too late to get your son an Oilers toque

My big bore went 6’6’ 19 7/16”! Pretty excited about this guy. I capture all three bear hunts on video, my buddies and my two. Will post video links to this thread once completed editing. Beyond happy.
