Tonight is the night!!
Been skunked on coyotes since dec/Jan after a dozen or more outings. Finally saw a small pack of four this morning on my way out of rocky in an adjacent field. They will be hungry and come to me tonight!!! I can feel it. How's everyone else's fur collection building? Been getting many this year? I took 6 in dec and Jan and haven't even seen one since.

Just a figure of speech. I don't keep them for fur. I leave them in the field. just excited I finally saw four in a pack and wanted to include some room for input in my post. I think it would be fairly obvious that if I dealt in coyote fur I would know what time of year they produce fur of value to the consumer. Anyways thanks for the input

Kill em all!! Which is impossible but always good to try. There will always be plenty of coyotes for fur season. No matter how many people shoot the rest of the year.

HorseHockey ! I hate the mangey varmints, I take great pleasure blowing up coyotes, preferably with a .338 a Mag or a .416 Mag,,

Good on you for getting out there, I'm sure the ranchers appreciate it. Any time is a good time to hunt coyotes

I mostly just like getting familiar with the land and getting out for a nightly hike and sit quietly watching a sunset out in the field. Good practice in patience, and quietly entering and leaving a stand. But according to some of the others I should put a pile of meat out there and shoot them as they come right?

Yote numbers vary a lot from one area to another. Half a dozen years ago I would have said, eliminate them whenever you get a chance to help save the fawns, birds and even pets & livestock. Aggressive hunting & trapping have really brought the numbers down in our area over the last 2 winters. Now I am advocating to save the survivors for seed after the fur season ends. A good yote really does have a beautiful fur. I still believe there are areas where there are not near enough yotes taken out.
Just my 2 bits.

My thought is if you want to shoot whatever legally, ethicaly, no one here has the right to say yes or no.
If you read this thread it turns out that even when we are to be together and push the various powers to be for hunting rights, etc all they do is look at the un stability within then go do what they want and implement new regulations accordingly.
Have at it

I've tried to clean this up as best I can.
Anybody who wants to tell someone else how to do something that is legal and ethical can do it elsewhere.

So someones personal opinion can't be said on this forum?
Man this world is really changing these days.
Sorry to see you had to step in on such a minor thing Cat. I am sure you won't be sharing your opinion on things then anymore?

I think the point was that people voice their ethics on others which probably has over all lead to a decline in this forum. If the guy gets a coyote I doubt he will post pictures for all of us to enjoy because he will feel he will be called out on something he did legally and ethical in his opinion.
Seems it is not worth the hassle to post a picture/experience of something outdoors done legally and then have to defended it from the mobs of the ethics committee here.
I think if your going to be the ethics police, cat wants that left at the door, or in the general forum with political threads Not to speak for you cat, just what I interpreted of the situation.

A person's personal opinion is one thing , telling people what they should be doing is quite another and you well know it.

I merely voiced that I would rather get $100 bill from it later in the year. I also agreed to some that said it is calving season. I didn't call the guy and arse and tear a strip out of him for killing it. Are we that touchy here now? Maybe a reason in itself things have gone down hill the last few years. Or am I not allowed to say that either as someone might take offence. I don't even know what to say anymore. People take offence at someone saying hi to them these days.
I guess we can all sit around and chat about the weather....
Congrats to the coyote killer! Go kill a bunch more coyotebutcher. Post a pic or 2 when you get another one.

This is not just about you Nube though you may think it is
There were other posts besides yours that got deleted because it started to go south into an ethics argument.

Wow cat. What got into you? Wipe a born and raised alberta boys opinion right off the map? It's about tradition and compassion and ethics bud. If you have no use for it then bloody well leave it for someone who does. What is so offensive about that train of thought.? That's how we all think out here. Kill something and leave it to rot? We as humans have upset the balance of nature so we should try to manage. Just let people voice their opinions. Shoot coyotes and throw em in the bush or leave them to rot? Hope the anti hunters don't see this.

Aaaaand now it went to ethics. I thought it was fine before the clean up, at least from what I saw has been posted
Ethics and legality have nothing to do with one's opinion, IMO. There are many legal things I do and some I do not do. I do not propagate anything to anyone, but I sure have no problems expressing my opinion. Some might agree, some disagree, some could not care less. In the end of the day, this is how discussion works and what forums are all about, supposedly.
As for the current topic, I do not really care if someone shoots a dog whenever they feel like it, as long as it is humane and follows the regulations. Personally, however, I would not should the dog just because, unless the area was overrun by the dogs. Also, once you kill them all (hypothetically speaking), they will be reintroduced along with the ban of shooting one up until most areas are overrun by them, etc.

The point is if some is posting about a hunting/fishing/outdoor experience it means they enjoyed it and wanted to share it with others. They dont need to be told C&R is the best, taking limits all the time is wrong, shooting dogs at this time is wrong because so and so, atvs ruin the outdoors etc. They posted because they enjoyed and felt others would also!
If you wouldn't enjoy what they did or have a problem with it, dont comment. Makes no sense to take away from someone's enjoyment/post because you wouldnt do it.
I dont think any of the post were malicious. I do not think any of them had that intent. But if I was the OP and was successful, I wouldnt share my success here after this thread because no one likes to do something and than hear why they "shouldnt have" even though they had all the right to do it.

I'm getting pretty danged tired of people telling me what I should leave and what I should delete .
You wanna leave coyotes until they are prime go ahead.
If a land owner wants them conteolllrd on his property for whatever reason go ahead .
Peoples'ethics are just that and they lead to nothing but arguments , name calling and insults and suspensions .

back on track!
Aaaaand, now to try and get the thread slightly back on track..................
Those of you who are seeing fewer numbers of coyotes in your areas, this is a trend I have been seeing and hearing for the last two years now. Some (not officially verified) are hearing rumor of a coyote "parvo" that has hit the area. Could just be part of Ma Nature's cycling process, but I am hearing from all areas that numbers are down significantly.
I supply meat scraps for baiting to some of the largest long-liners in the country when it comes to coyote trapping. General consensus is that numbers are down aproximately sixty percent in all areas. Guys that would normally shoot and snare 300 dogs a season are struggling to get 100.
I am convinced that this is the reason why we have been hearing such an increase of success on native pheasants as well!
