Marlin 336 GBL 30-30 accuracy

Just wondering how these guns shoot ? Accuracy wise ? What ammo do these rifles like ? Thinking about getting one.

I use federal 170 gr and can put 5 shots under two inches at 100 yards....just a nice cluster...maybe 1.5".....ish.

Great little blind/bush gun....

I have a 336 in 30-30 and it has great accuracy. 5 shot groups less than 1.5". I have even had a couple 3-shot, one-hole groups with handloads. It likes the Winchester Silvertips in 170 grain for factory ammo. The silvertips get less beat up in the tubular magazine too, I find.

The older machined 30-30 Marlins were a prized possession. I bought one from SIR in Winnipeg in 1969 for $99.00. It was called a " Glenfield" Marlin with a half magazine but the same gun as a 336. Like an idiot I sold this gun when I moved further West- would love to have it back.

I've got a 1975 336 30-30. 150 fed fusion shot the best out of
Many different factory loads. If you reload i would recommend cfe223 and speer 150, excellent results with this combo.

I’ve found the 170gr Silvertips to shoot well in numerous 336’s

Even the new Marlins can be very accurate. This one is a 45-70 that was made in 2015 so long after my JM stamped one that shoots just as good. The 2015 is pretty much right out of the box, 18" guide gun. Four shots at 100 yards, first shot 2" above POA, adjust scope up 4 clicks, next three shots touching. Levers are not inherently inaccurate, many guys that shoot them are but a scope does make a big difference at 100 and beyond.

I'm currently running the 350gr round nose over 55.5gr of IMR 3031 but i am Almost out of powder and thinking I might change it up to a powder I use in other calibers. Varget specifically as I have lots on hand and use it already for multiple calibers/ loads.

I'm currently running the 350gr round nose over 55.5gr of IMR 3031 but i am Almost out of powder and thinking I might change it up to a powder I use in other calibers. Varget specifically as I have lots on hand and use it already for multiple calibers/ loads.

Load data is on the Target. 4227, WW Case, CCI mag primers. 1900 FPS. I have also used a lot of Varget and find it very good also, though 3031 is probably my favourite 45-70 powder. I backed this load off to 1700 FPS, very pleasant to shoot and still just as accurate. Made very little difference at 100 yards to POI. I load the Varget with the 350 RN to the same 1600-1700 FPS for most of my 45-70s. Outside of more recoil, I don't find moving the bullets faster makes any difference in how fast they kill or how much penetration I get, they pretty much go clean through everything even at 1500 fps.

Brand new marlin 30-30 laminate stock big loop. Sighting in 1st time got it down to easy 1" groups at 100 yds.

The Marlin-Glenfield's were the same as the 336 however made for box stores like Sears, Kmart, Walmart etc... The had cheaper birch stocks but other than that I have ordered Marlin branded parts for my Glenfield when I owned it. Initially intended as a cheaper alternative to the Marlin I have found they have increased in value in recent years and are getting harder to find. The one I had was in .35 Remington and the only reason I sold it is I wanted a full length magazine. One day I'll get another .35.

Great stuff. I picked one up and I’m gonna try out these lever revolution ammo see how it does. If all goes well and it shoots I’m likely gonna be using this as my deer and moose gun for the season. Lugging around those long heavy magnums has lost its appeal to me lol.
