How does everyone find accuracy and POI with the magneto speed installed on the barrel vs not installed? Particularly on sporter contour barrels?

Chronographing is a single stand alone act for me.

Find a good load.
Confirm it’s a good load.
Find out the velocity of the good load.

That is pretty much my method, although I sometimes use chronograph readings when deciding whether to work up a load further.

Having got around to using my V3, pretty pleased with it, had some trouble with tapered barrel and it wanting to slide forward first time out. Picked up some of the tapered barrel pads, that cured that. Works well, speeds seem to be where they shud be for what I've tried over it, it is reliable, and convenient.
I don't worry about POI shifts with it attached, as I just run pressure checks from min to max right off the bat, to see how the gun performs, so that I know where its boundaries are to start with, and then don't bother again til I get a load that works, and then it is just a recheck to see what that load is actually doing spec wise. It is a handy tool on a busy range. Certainly beats using a Chrony outdoors, nothing more irritating than wanting to do a quick check and the Chrony won't work right. I'll still use the Oehler for some of the fine tuning if I am not on a range though, or I'm on a quiet range where I'm not in any rush to set it up between target checks.

Thanks for the replies, guys re the oops I had with mine.

Got a new bayonet part, $125 from Western Metals in Calgary. It was a good excuse to go for a bike ride.

If its attached to the barrel, how dose it not affect load development?

A cable is needed to use the Magneto app but with the new phones many don’t have a cable outlet. Is it still possible to use the app without the XFR cable?

Darrell, I’ve had a couple of MS’s. When I got my LabRadar, I decided to compare the two units. I did it on two different days. Temperatures were 10 degrees different (cooler) on the second day. I tested speeds with my .308 and 6.5x47.

Both units were very close on each day. I would have to say that they are equal in accurate measurement. The MS varied only 3fps from the LR.

I’d say they are equal.

Edit: FWIW, I ended up selling the MS. While the two units were accurate, I got sick and tired of mounting the MS. All of my rifles have large contour barrels. The spacers required got to be a plumbers nightmare to keep straight. Then...I got a .50BMG rig. I just couldn’t mount the MS on that large of a barrel. So I decided to use the LR.

Just the hassle of mounting and remounting the MS. YMMV.

Default choices

I guess the reason I went with a Labradar in stead of Magneto is that with FS rifles the Magneto did not mount well

don't use the magneto speed attached for load development ...it absolutely changes my poi on my 300prc by at least 3".

The brake was removed, as soon as I received the thread protector. It is staying in the box while I own the rifle.
