M77 Ruger .270 Jump to lands.

Just measured up a Ruger M77 Mark II.
Jump to lands is 0.240 inches. Using 130gr Accubonds.
Is this too excessive? Seems way more than I am used to. Is the Rifle wore out or is this the way Ruger is?

How does it shoot?
If it shoots well it doesn't matter what the numbers come out to !
They are after all, a measurement from which to load ammo with .
Some of the Bullets I use jump as much as .080, other are on the lands .

I have a pre64 win300 h&h that my dad had rechambered back in the day to 300. Wby at that time the std throat length on a 300 wby was 7/8 of an inch . This gun shoots stupidly well. So as suggested shoot it and see what it does

Don't get hung up on numbers, if it shoots good as, go with it. If it doesn't shoot well, then try shortening up the jump.

I just never saw a rifle with 1/4 inch jump to lands.

You should try a Swede or a Weatherby.

whatever you do just ensure your loads are at minimum when farting around with seating depth....might get into excessive pressure concerns....I always take the baby steps......take more time but a lot less issues....blown out primers, case cracks/seperates and bolt will not open unless you use a axe handle….had a 7STW that Layne Simpson had developed the cartridge before going commercial...own a mustang so I ran it like a mustang....that was 30 ish years ago....smarten'd up a bit since

I have a rifle in 30-06 that prefers the bullet I use to be seated to 0.230 off the lands. Had an old Ruger that also had a lot of free bore. My Howa has more than the norm. Heard weatherby, as mentioned above, has always been built that way. An old Brno that probably had more than anything I’ve read or seen.
In all the hunting rifles I’ve loaded for(not many compared to some members here), I’ve only had one that liked to be about 0.015-0.030 off the lands (and that was early in my reloading and I didn’t try much farther).

I ignore all the chasing the lands stuff I read and just let the rifles tell me what they like with that specific bullet.

If you are concerned about jump you can always try a different bullet. Bullet shape will definitely affect jump- the more streamlined high BC bullets will generally have more jump than a more blunt bullet with a lower BC.

My fave rifle has 0.180" jump to lands with my preferred Barnes LRX bullet (limited by magazine length), but is still very accurate. I fretted about that for a bit, then realized it really did not matter.
