Default Sako 85 hunter base/rings question

Hi All,

I am wondering what people are using for bases/rings on Sako 85 long actions? I know I can get optilocks in super low for a 3-9x40 scope but wondering if there is a less expensive option that works well? Will be on a 270.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Personally I use the Optilok one piece ring mounts on Sako 85’s. Work great and look better than the mounts and rings. Will cost a bit more than other options but worth it I think. Never had an issue with them, other than trying to find them.

Leopold makes rings that fit the dovetails. Burris also makes bases that slide over the dovetails.

Just an FYI, Your 270 should be a Medium action. The Long action is for 7RemMag, 300WM, 338WM, 375H&H, etc. The 85L actions make scope mounting a bit difficult if you are hoping to mount a scope with a short main tube, but the Optilocks are worth the price and have a few variants for extended and long action bases.

This is right. 270, 30-06 are Medium Action in Sako 85.
I have 2 Sako Finnlight (one 75 and one 85) both in 30-06 with identical Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 scopes.
One is mounted in one piece Optilock Ringmounts other with classic Optilock
bases and rings. Works fine for both rifles.
I like those mounts as they have plastic inserts in the rings so you don't mar the scope. You don't need to do lapping either.

Optilocks are my choice. Have them on all my Sako m75 rifles. Rock solid. Ringmount styles are nice- I have them installed on 2 of my m75 rifles. Rest are the Rings and Bases setup

Thank you everyone,

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions, now to find them in low for the ringmounts or leupolds.....

Cheers,

Mark
