They were discussing your big beer belly and male pattern baldness , as well as the skinny, stubby legs in those shorts.

I don’t get offended if people are having conversations of their own and most times I don’t care. But if we are talking about an important project or deal and you turn to another person involved in the project or deal and switch languages I find it rude. If a group is trying to work together or reach an agreement communication should be open and clear among all. Exception is if there is a language barrier and someone needs things clarified
Even at that there is no need to freak out but I will ask respectfully we use English because I don’t want to miss any important information

Out of all the things to get offended about, not speaking English does not even register for me and I am baffled by why anyone would even care. I work around and with Filipinos and they speak their native language all the time. It never even occurred to me to be the least bit offended.
At the end of the day I think people need to worry more about their own shortcomings that worry about their perceived shortcomings of others who are obviously trying to make it in this country. These are people who have left everything and everyone they know to try to make it here, if they want to speak their native language among themselves who cares. Myself personally, I have great admiration for someone who is learning another language because it is not an easy thing to do. Obviously being able to read, speak, and write English are beneficial for anyone's job prospects so I am sure the majority of people living and working here are doing their best to get better.

As for the op, yeah it's maybe rude, but maybe it's just being a bit touchy to worry about it too....

I recall reading a former Prime Ministers "requirements" for immigration to Canada that applicants would be "required" to speak English/French.
My personal belief is that it is utterly rude for others to speak in their homeland tongues when in the presence of English/French speaking individuals. I face this everyday in my workplace.
So, what say you?
Should a requirement to emigrate to Canada "require" at least some knowledge and the ability to speak either English or French?

And to think I was upset (though without complaint) when I was in Vienna, Austria around 18 years ago and people spoke English to me when I was really intent on practicing the elementary German I had been studying, from a cassette tape no less.

Good luck getting a job now, probably should’ve been nicer to those workers because she might have to work a minimum wage job if she’s lucky.

I had one of those once, but the wheels fell off. Worst snowmobile engine ever!

Is it rude.
Depends on the situation.
I feel that it is when two employees are just chatting in their native tongue...save it for your coffee break.
However if one in asking another for something work related, and they feel they are going to get their point across and get quicker results by asking using their native tongue...go for it.
As to the video clip in question...the customer rudeness trumps that of the employees by about a scale of 100.
