Ordered a B&C stock, using Henry Rempel, and I went with a #3 1-8 finish 26. And cant say enough about Gary, I ordered the barrel Wednesday and looking at the tracking here I should have it in my hands this afternoon. Pretty excited.

The 6.5 is a excellent round to build a rifle on. For hunting and target shooting.
Personally I would go with a amuser 98 action and a Douglas premium barrel.
But if you want to reach out and hit that elk @1000m then go with a 338 edge.
built on the 300rum action with a douglas barrel. You won't be disappointed.

You seem to be q big supporter of Douglas barrels, so I am curious as to why you would choose Douglas over all of the other barrels?

Shes home now
Took my time in my first semi custom build and what a blast I had. Really appreciative of all the help from you fellow AO members, now just trying to decide on optics.
26" benchmark barrel order from Gary Eakin at Bighorn Sales, the guy is the best as far as I am concerned, Henry Rempel re-chambered, glass bedded, blasted the barrel and set the trigger had the gun in a week. Unreal. Mounted on a b n c stock. Also put my own bolt knob on. Cant wait to pick some optics and get playing around.
I am trying to figure out how to add pics of the rifle as I am not tech savy but hopes to get it on here right away.

Rifle looks awesome congrats, I have to agree about Gary&Ebony Eakin of Bighorn Sales, they are first class to deal with and service second to none, Ive bought a cpl dozen Benchmark barrels from them and they never disappoint.
I love my 6.5-284, mines built on a Husqvarna H5000 action, Benchmark #1 contour barrel, wildcat stock and will shoot 3/8" groups with most factory ammo or handloads
Your going to love that rifle/cartridge combo,
Im getting 2935 FPS with 52grs of R26 and 143gr ELD-X bullets

Don,
If my wife lets me I would like to start here right away. Shes pretty understanding so I would assume in the near future. Just gotta mount some optics on this one first then get after another one. So much fun.

Done several builds myself including several “Improved” chambers. I’ve come to the realization that the KISS principal works best. If you study ballistics you’ll see you are splitting hairs with terminal performance. Have you considered the 6.5 PRC? Will be able to buy high quality ammo off the shelf, and it’s standardized unlike many others.

Ammunition
Going to do some load data as soon as I get some optics on the rifle.
143 ELD-X handloaded with 58gr of H4831SC w/ Lapua Brass
143 ELD-X handloaded with 52gr of Retumbo w/ Lapua Brass
I will either choose between the two, hoping in mind to be around that 3k mark, from what I have played with with my friends rifles it should be just over 3, hoping anyways.
Not shooting pinwheels at 1200, simply want to be able to kill 4 legged critters at 800-1000.
