Okay...not at a shop, but the range.
I and my two sons like to shoot rimfire at 100+ meters.
We've gotten pretty good in my opinion...On a good day (meaning zero wind) I can consistently shoot 1" groups at 100m with my .22WMR (that is bedded, has a scope worth three times the rifle is properly torqued) and my two sons (11 & 14) can get 2-3" groups with their .22LR.
We constantly run into guys claiming they can shoot sub MOA with their rimfires "all day long" (just heard this one last week).
Then they bring their targets back to the bench and it starts:
"Wow it's really gusty out there" (sometimes next to no wind that I can feel)
"Guess the barrel needs a good scrubbing"
"Scope must be acting up"
"One too many cups of coffee"
I'd like to see the fish that got away

A fellow approached me a week ago. He had installed a 20 MOA rail on his gun and complained that he couldn't hit anything. Upon a quick inspection, his rail was on backwards (thin end at the rear of receiver). I indicated this to him to which he replied "how the F' am I suppose to know this?).....orky dorky.

When I went on to ask why he mounted a 20 MOA rail on a hunting rifle, he replied "that's all they had"....orky dorky.

Of course afterwards, I had to stand still with a straight face as he told me of his marksmanship abilities at stupid yardages, off hand and all that....Of course, you know the rest of the story.

Not a store story, but, it could be, this is an anti-gun politician;

I was at Store X and commented on their practice of asking for PAL before they even let you hold a gun. Guy sort of leaned in and quietly said "Well, we have a lot of people of 'a certain ethnic persuasion' (his words. I didn't ask him to specify) who like to come in and pose for photographs holding guns, grinning and laughing, then they send the pictures to their kin back home. They aren't really gun shopping. It's a waste of time."

I've seen that a lot lol

Was in at the local doesn't have it looking for prices on a few things when I heard a guy say all he had to do was change the bow string to a different color to change the draw weight on his compound bow. Heard a lot of giggling from the girl behind the counter. This guy proceeded to tell his buddy he could also hit a deer with it beyond 500 yards

Trying to figure out where all these no brainers are coming from lately.

Just wait, it's only a matter of time before we see an archery version of best of the west on Wild TV.

The result will be people flinging arrows at game animals at 200 and 300 yards.

This will only happen if they can figure out a way to put a Huskemaw Scope on those Magnum Super Long Range Bows and a way to sell you Super High Ballistic Coefficient Arrows.

Back when bass pro shops first opened my dad took me to see what was there, when we walked up to the gun counter I asked if they had any old military rifles like the Lee-Enfield or the SKS. The guy behind the counter proceeded to tell me that the SKS was prohibited, I tried to correct him but he didn't believe me(I was much younger then).

If he had told me the Enfield was prohibited i would have laughed at him loudly.

I was waiting for a guy (mid 50s I'd guess) and his mother to finish up their business, at the end the guy says he needs some 410 ammo. He picks up a box that is on display on the counter and his mother chimes in with "maybe you should get two... you don't always hit what you shoot at."

Made me smile.

Not really funny, more surprising.
The other day I got a yes when I asked if they had gotten in any Titegroup. It took me a while to comprehend what I had heard considering I had heard no for so long.

Unfortunately, some people actually believe that buying the right gear will instantly make them a long range marksman. One individual was bragging how his new Huskemaw scope would make shooting deer at 800 yards easy. When asked how far he was comfortable shooting with his old 3-9 x40 scope on the same rifle, he replied "200 yards".

Had not just 1 but 2 guys argue with me on thursday evening that if I put a Bushnell elite 4200 on a 300 wsm that after every 6 shots I would have to zero the rifle again because it couldn't take the recoil. Then one of the guys the next day proceeded to tell a customer that the best ammo you could get for a 30-06 for moose was the 125gr. Sad to say but one of them was a manager!

Overheard heard a young guy at PnD say he was to afraid to reload his own ammo after the guy at the counter said he should . His reason why he dint want to is that he saw his dad blow out his front tooth reloading
