Default Bullets to the same POI part two.

I was finally able to stretch things a bit with a final site in of the 280 Rem at 400 yds. The scope required no adjustment. In the group are a 145 LRX, a 140 TSX, and a 140 partition. The 140 accubond likes to go high.

It's just mild steel of some kind.

Default Accubonds

I found the same thing when shooting my 270 wsm and 140 accubonds. They hit the paper about 6 inches higher than a 130 Hornady interbond. I thought something was wrong with my scope. Thanks for the info

Does the POI change at all if you lose the rest/rear bag and shoot from a bipod ?

No. Nor does it off a pack. That is the beauty of free floated barrels and stiff stocks.

I'm not posting this to brag or boast. But what good luck! This is only a good barrel, and good components put together properly. But even that guarantees nothing. For a hunting rifle, a person should latch onto such things and never let go! I would even go so far as to say, shoot the barrel sparingly!

Yes. I shot three accubonds and the first two cleared the top of the plate as per the spotter and the last one clipped the top. Otherwise everything was a hit (you can see that if you look close at the ammo box). I have shot these loads extensively so I was just confirming what I basically already knew. One last hurrah before the fall. Now no more unless I have a wreck with it.

It is using the same 6X Leupold that has been drug around for years and miles so it is a proven scope.

The scope has Leupolds LR reticle in it. The center of the bottom dot sub tends 18" at 400 yds. If I zero the bottom dot at 400 yds it puts the cross hair zero at around 225.

I was shooting at steel plates @1865yds in southern sask today and it sucked. I need to practice reading the wind a lot, like really really practice I suck.

Very nice shooting Chuck. I'm jealous.

Sorry to ask this slightly off-topic question, but I need to lean on some of you who are obviously more successful at 300+ yard shooting than I am.

This weekend I was out "proving" loads as you were. I have 3 loads that shoot very well for me at 100 yards - 0.75" 4 shot groups. When I stretch things out to 300 and 400 yards, the groups open up to 6-8" shooting an 8" round gong. I experienced 1 miss in 5 shots so if we take the miss into consideration, some 5 shot groups were more than 8".

So my question is, when you experience something like this, do you focus on load improvement of form improvement?

I'm very curious to run my loads through a chrono, but I don't own one.

I'm shooting a factory Cooper M52 (bedded) off a Harris bipod and a rear bag, all sitting atop a collapsible banquet table.

The terrain I will be hunting this fall will give me the opportunity for 300-400 yard shots on deer. Based on my practice results this weekend, I think more work is needed.

Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

Pay attention to the wind especially when shooting long distance. It has more effect than most people believe.
