Default Electrical advice

OK in need of some knowledge I have a 120/208v 3 phase panel coming off a 480v 3 phase step down transformer . Is there any way I can wire a single phase 240v breaker in this panel to supply a 240v welder ? From my understanding I'm hoozed with out a transformer .

You can wire a Welder plug off your panel. It works like wiring a stove. Run a fuse off each 120V leg and run the wires from the fuse into the welder plug. Make sure to use big enough fuses and proper size wire for the draw you will have.

That will give you 208v. The difference between 208v and 240 volts may be an issue with some welders.

Can you retap some of these welders? Check the manual there could be an opportunity there as you are stuck with 208 by the sounds of it. But if your nameplate has a voltage range that 208 falls into bobs your uncle.

240V welder should work on 208V. Just install 2 pole breaker rated at your welder Amps and you good to go.

Before you kill yourself or blow something up.....

It sounds like you are very unsure about what to do...dont listen to the advice on here and get a qualified electrician to have a look at your requirements.

Hold on now. I've worked with a hundreds of so called qualified electricians half of whom I wouldn't trust to plug in my toaster. Careful what you wish for.
