Hang a dream catcher off the mirror. Free pass.

Seriously though, I know people that have in the past, left the vehicle unlocked, all valuables removed, and a bottle of whiskey on the seat. Food for thought.

They might not trash your vehicle because they might want you to keep coming back..... often...

I just texted a guy I know from Cold Lk,he said there was last year and his friend camped there the weekend after may long and there was then too.I wonder who a guy could call to confirm? It is a nice lake but we couldn't enjoy fishing with the truck out of sight and hearing multiple bad stories. We had a bad experience with a dog/owner.

UPDATE: I contacted F&W in LLB,they have zero info on the security situation and agreed there is a theft prob there and in LLB in general.I then googled a number for Heart Lk 780-623-2130,no answer or voice mail avail. I did see an old post saying there was security.

I worked on their new community center there a few years ago.

The band office would let people know I was coming to visit the site, and they were generally welcoming to me, once they knew who I was.

They invited me back to camp at the little campground they have set up and offered to take me out fishing.

I think if you know the right band members then generally your stuff would be ok. If a 'stranger' just showed up and went fishing from the boat launch I'd be leery because there are some folks there that aren't the most scrupulous.

It's a place you want to take the other guys rig to.

Last time I went I took my oldest pickup and luckily it was still in one piece when I returned.
I've camped out on the islands when staying there, the campsites not all that safe.

Seriously it's not even worth it. There's better lakes in the area where you don't have to deal with the hassles of Heart lake.

I fished Heart for 30 years and put up with the theft and vandalism because the fishing was great, but the fishing isn't even that good anymore so what's the point. If you want to catch 100 pike a day under 63 cm knock yourself out, but don't expect many decent sized fish.

I've also had great experiences there. Not everyone is a bad apple. Have been invited to join their pow wow festivities a few times which was great. In the end though, the fishing doesn't outweigh the potential for theft/vandalism anymore.

Well you obviously know the lake better than anyone I know. I've seen a few 6-7 pound walleye over the years come out of there. Even during treaty days I've never seen any of the natives with walleye that size out of their nets.

But based on your posts it doesn't sound like you've obviously been there this year or last year. If you go, post some picks of these walleye in the teens. I'm sure they are a few in there; probably about as common as the security patrolling the campground.
