Just so y'all know...

The fur market people HATE shotgun coyote skins, the Canada Goose people in particular.

They are very difficult to spot by the graders so they often end up in the good grades and big money paid but are later rejected and often sent back to the auction company.

Please either just use your rifle or try a 10/22.

That was unreal! Its amazing how well he patterned these coyotes.

This is something I have been trying to do while I'm out calling, if I make it to a stand that looks promising with lots of tracks but I don't have success at calling them in I try and determine where the tracks were going, so that in the future I can come back and try and see if they have used the trail again and maybe catch them in a pattern so that I can better determine where my next stand for the area will be.

I have found that coyotes take the easiest routes to their destination. They more often than not, take cattle trails and even lease roads to travel where they are going, moving off trail every so often to predate. Just like in Les' video they move along fence lines and at least in the area I hunt like to get out of the wind by moving into culverts. I wish I had more time so I could set up a hunt like this one!

Thanks for sharing this.

Cool vid and how he dug himself into the deep snow. I like how they come in all tough and then the Oh Crap moment.

I'd love to have a conversation about this topic sometime, Marty.

I want to become successful in the fur industry, and enjoy learning from a seasoned pro such as yourself.

PM me if you care to elaborate on the "shotgunning coyotes" topic, or any other tidbits you haven't disclosed already.

Cheers, John

I agree Marty .. Last year I had 3 coyotes that I sent in for a friend , all had been shotgunned . The little furrows where BB's had cut thru the fur were easy to see , price on these pelts was about half what others graded the same received .
