Default Tracer rounds

Not really something I'm interested in, but seem to think that these are illegal in Canada? Not sure why I think that, but Recently came upon an add for them for sale. . .

Am I mistaken?

I thought they were illegal as well in canada.
I was always in the mindset only military applications were able to use tracer rounds.
Where did you see them for sale?

From what I understand, tracers are legal, incendiary are illegal.
But I'm just a farmer, so don't take my word for it.

I've been trying to find some 5.56, just to try. No real reason, just because.

Tracer are incendiary aren't they? And you can't shoot at night...so kind of no fun at all.

Default Ya

Tracer rounds slipped through a loophole about 4 years(?) and came to the market place again after a long hiatus. Then after a short spell, 6 months maybe(?) the explosives board caught wind of it and put a stop to the sales.
But I don't believe they are a prohibited device.
You can go to the CFC and search prohibited ammunition, it will tell you for sure.
Plenty of cases of the military tracers were sold in that short period, so it would not be uncommon for folks to have them.

I bought a box of 30-06 tracers from a shop in Edmonton this a few months ago. My understanding is they can't be imported but they can be sold. Makes about the same logic as most Canadian gun laws.

What he said ^ tracers canot be imported but if you have a bunch from a while ago you can shoot em or sell em. They light up great even during the day. Word of caution even though they are not incindiary they can and will start grass fires so be aware of the backstop and be prepared to put out small flare ups just in case.

I think I know which shop the 30-06 tracer was bought from...MilArm?

They are all sold out, but it is true Tracer is legal if already in the country, they just cannot import more Tracer into the country.

Tracer ammunition in 30-06, 8mm, 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R often turns up at shows (in packages or lose rounds).

You can buy and sell them in Canada but you can not import them.

So, the only tracers you can get are the ones already in the country when the ban was put in place.

Default Tracers

I agree with Lefty Canuck. It is the white phosphorus which is burning which give them the trace (i.e. incendiary) a burning round.
