Default Shemeluk, Amisk, Calling

Started at Shemeluk, got there too late, no trout, but others had first light action.

Moved to Amisk, seems it has shut down, and perch caught were small.

Calling, was ... good.

Ice is depressing. another inch and the Jiffy 30 would not go through. trouble is water got in the carb from flushing or snow, and caused trouble, so put on the extension bar.

Saturday last light action was steady. AMAZING number of small fish, so they are reproducing very successfully. Hard to tell if the small ones are male or female walleye, but they were all sizes under 45 cm, so maybe not mature enough to spawn, but a range of year classes.

Slot size walleye were typically males, and the gagger females over 60 cm +++ were obvious.

What was interesting, we went for an afternoon perch hunt. Caught enough for a meal and a lot of them were in the 8 - 10 inch range. Problem was we could not cut enough holes to be effective as it is 30 FOW and it is off Poplar street about 1 mile out. Its just a big sand flat for miles so you need to cut a lot of holes and fish hole to hole to find active Perch. We only went after Perch for a couple of hours, so it was more of an experiment. However, it seems the Perch are making a good come back, which is nice to see.

Ice is still good for access, and there is snow cover so it is not a skating rink. This week will turn it into a slush fest, so bring some cleats or have a good health care plan.

Yah we were there Saturday, a few under and a few over but we got our keepers, we went looking for perch also, we were in 20ft and found nothing. I guess we needed to be deeper, with ice that thick, not drilling a lot of holes
