Default Meadows 429 elk hunting thoughts?

Hey guys. Was recently out in429 and thought it looked like great elk country so decided to look at seasons available for the coming year. Look d promising there too but when I went to harvest reports for 2016 and 2015 I saw 0% success rate in that unit and the surrounding two units. Does this m an
A) no one tried?
B) no one succeeded
C) no one report d success.

Not sure what I'm missing thanks for responses.

Not many elk left in 429 - so A,B and C reasons for no reported succes rate could all apply.

I have pulled a few bulls out of there over the years. But there are lots of people, lots of quad access, lots of domestic cows. Its a better recreational area than a hunting area.....

I would think that if there are cows and calfs bulls would have to be there, don't like hearing about lots of access though, must be some places a guy can walk away from the roads though no? anyone?

The Quad trails criss cross that zone pretty thoroughly. Lots of different access and staging areas to the different parts of that zone. There are small herds of elk in that zone but that 3 point rule gets them shot as soon as someone sees a legal bull.

We used to wall tent back in 429 and chase elk. See lots of tracks, lots of tent hunt camps, never seen much for elk as they stay in the hills during early season. Snow brings them down and we would see more cows. Had only 1 chance in about 6 yrs of trying, at a bull, in a snow storm, too far out to count points. Had a run in with a grizz too. Seen there tracks in the snow as well. And the horses, find some great elk areas, see horse and horse tracks.

Default 429

Used to be my annual hunting area. That goes back twenty years, but we harvested at least one a year there in our group.
At the end, we had a bad experience with a grizzly, and moved to a new area. The wolves were pretty bad in that area even then, but the elk were there in decent numbers.

Many days were spent in 429 starting in the late eighties. Travelled a lot of it on foot,4x4,trike and then finally quad. At that time it didn't have much for lease roads, just some seismic lines and old logging roads. Was pretty good hunting although I didn't drag much game out of there. First came the wolves, then the cougars, followed by an increase in hunters, then finally clear cut logging and easy access. Haven't been there hunting recently although I have been dreaming of revisiting a few secret spots in there just to see what's wandering around. Recent fishing trips have shown a resident population of grizz....cow killin' moose eatin' grizz.

Harvest reports, an average of 7% over recent years by fellows that no where the pockets of elk are.
