Default My first successful hunting excursion!

I know I am new here guys, but I thought I had to share my excitement! I went along with 4 other avid hunters up to 356 for a bull moose. My friend(who invited me) got his early bull moose draw this season, so we decided to spend 9 days up there to make damn sure he could get one. Wow! What a lot of moose in that area! On average we saw about 5-7 moose daily, mostly cow's with calf's, and about 2 of them being bulls. I passed a bull on one of the side roads 20 yards off who decided to sit there for about 5 minutes while I stopped my quad, and took a lot of pics. HOLY CRAP! All we needed was 2 days! On our 2nd day we are all sitting down for dinner, and we here crashing in the bushes nearby, a snort, and out comes a huge bull moose(at least I thought so, 1200-1300 lbs) waltzing right into our camp. So to cut a long story short, you know the rest! On our last day I shot a 5 point bull elk (around 700 lbs) at around 200 yards through a narrow clearing.(I thought that was great considering this is my 2nd year hunting. That was my highlight! For a lot of threads on this forum, it worried me about all the talk about the deer numbers being really low in this area. One day we counted 31 deer, mostly does with calf's, 4 of which were buck's. I got a 3 point buck, along with 2 does, in which I was also pleased. Our group came out with 4 altogether. Hardly any deer to be seen in the lower sections, and most of the deer we saw where in northern sections of 356. Any way I hope this helps you guys out if you are deciding to venture that way!

Nice to see new people getting into hunting. With the kind of trip you just had, I think you will be hooked on the sport for good. Congrats.

Congrats!! Now I know another guy who's had the experience of having a bull moose crash their camp. The moose crashed into our camp and headed straight to the head of the dead moose we got earlier that day.

I could be wrong, but that cut on the bridge of your nose looks like it came from a scope! LOL

Heathlight, in your second season, in a matter of days, you took a 5 point bull elk, a 3 point buck and 2 does on one trip? Holy crap man! Congrats, but I hope you know how to do your own butchering or else you got a HUGE bill in front of ya! BTW, that's a GOOD problem! Congrats on the sucess!
