Hi,
I have hunted this zone the last 4 years, the elk are chased hard in some areas, like the Crooked Lake area & they have gone nocturnal & are unbelievably smart.
Good Luck! Stick to the pipelines, use the cow call, get in real early & stay late!

the whole zone within 10 kms or so of big stone rd or the simonette are pressured hard

walking cutlines i have only ever even seen elk within the first week of rifle season...after that they smarten up and like said above they become basically nocturnal and very timid

little smokey area holds some great spots....consider yourself lucky if you manage to not run into another hunter though

this is my second year drawn in that zone and have only had a glimpse of a cow elk....they sure are fun to hunt though LOL
