Default Moose Call Question.

I know that calling can be very effective for bull Moose. Does calling also attract cow Moose?
Any tips on getting in bow range of a cow moose if you have an antlerless Moose tag? Thanks.

Only ever called to the males. I have had cows come out to the line and see who was making that awful racket. The few times an uncle had a cow tag, they were just spotted while out hunting.

Have heard of some hunters having success with a calf call. Just search for calf moose call on YouTube and then try to replicate.

Damn straight ya can....

Cow callin will stump the old girls for abit.. they are usually curious.

Put the bow on your head, walk funny, sway slightly, and get in between her and the calf.

Hunting up north one year where two pipelines crossed. I tried calling and had a bull respond what sounded about a mile away. Prior to the bull coming i had 3 cows come in. I stayed motion less and the one cow came within 10 yards. When she would look away i would grunt. She was confused as hell. Then finally when the bull showed up and i shot him at 50 yards the cows ran to about a 100 yards and watched as i field dressed the bull.

Cows will come to a call if they are in heat.

If they are not, brace yourself, it could get interesting.

Cows will come in if you are emulating a bull by raking bush and using bull grunts. I had 4 show up 2 with calves one session.
Pretty embarrassing as a guide when they are all that show up. lol

I called in a cow last season with a mixture of cow calls and grunts. Once I saw her I stopped calling and after 30 mins or so she started feeding on willows. Shorty after I heard some branches to my left and realised a bull was following her from a distance

Cows will come into cow calls as well as bull grunts I have had them come in on a number of occasions. They are curious I was putting a stand up for deer a few years back thanksgiving long weekend and making some noise putting it up and a cow came out and pestered my daughter and I for about 10 min . It was as close as 5 yds several times

Hopefully I will get a chance to hear you in action sometimes this season.

waterninja used Calf Call.
It's super effective!

It's hard for a mother to ignore her children in danger. You can find plenty of support if you search it. Apparently it even works on cows without calves because they have such a maternal instinct. Moose aren't as wily as deer so you can get them with a lot of dirty tricks. I like the Jim Shockey canoe paddle a lot too.
