Default Epic end to my season

Well i have been after a trap shy wolverine for 2 years(i made him trap shy and smart in the process), well after 2 years i was able to get him and on the last couple days too. he is my first one and man am i pumped. Going to get him full mounted for sure just have to figure out how i want him. I also got 4 more marten and a mink to finish the season for them. I will post pics of the Gulo soon hopefully tomorrow if i get a chance! Now 2 more weeks for cats and then hit some rats and beaver!

Congrats. Betting not many on here have done that. There's so many great ways too have them mounted. Personally I'd have him outsmarting you on a set one last time

Default Congrats

I've been getting robbed for two years now from one as well. He seems to have no problem stealing from sprung traps but wants nothing to do with set ones. One day He'll make a mistake. Congrats on getting yours

I had the same problem he knew what the 330 was, he made the mistake of not knowing what a snare was thankfully. Im trying to put the pics up but everytime i click to insert a pic everything freezes up on me? hopefully get it figured out

Default Congrats

One of the coolest animals ever. Carried a tag in the NWT 4 times on cariboo and sheep hunts and it was usually one of the guys from the US who got a pop at one on a gut pile. Remember one guy missed one defending its gut pile twice at 75 to 100 yards before it loped off into the sunset.
I have never seen one and certainly never shot at one although they are on my list for a great mount.
My grandfather had probelms with them from time to time on his trapline so I know how the glutten can behave. Nicely done!

Nice job Rocky I bet you're pumped. Maybe take a small DNA sample from the paw for the ACA? There is a video posted on youtube that shows how. Way to go.

Did you catch him with a leg hold of Coni?

I found them easier to catch with a Coni.

I caught it in a snare, technically we cant use footholds for wolverine in Alberta for some strange reason! There were 2 wolverines hanging around my sets but they both knew what my coni's were. I ended up getting it in a set that a trapper taught me for "trap shy wolverines"!

WOW!!!!!!! You snared him!!!!!!!

I didn't even think that was possible!!!!!

If I had thought about it, I should have realized it ought to be possible. We did use snares to catch Fisher before Coni's were invented.

Still, I am way impressed. No one I know has ever snared a Wolverine and I know quiet a few people who have caught a lot more Wolverine then I have.

Who says this old dog can't learn a new trick or two. LOL

Snaring them is the way to go cause they get pretty trap smart but I find you have to hang em from a running pole, kinda like a giant squirell set

My uncle taught me to gang set for the trap shy ones.

One trap in the normal location at the entrance to the cubby and four more, two off to either side of the cubby, next to the tree, and behind the tree.

My neighbour used an exposed trap and hanging bait setup for all Wolverine, even the trap shy ones. It worked as well as anything I've heard of.

I used conis. I invented a set that let the animal get to the bait without touching the trap or entering a cubby or other enclosure.

But I had my best success with a running pole setup with two conis on it.

That what I use, only with conis instead of snares.
